Are you a high school student taking your first CS course in HS?
Complete a short 10-15 minute survey and receive a $15 Amazon gift card.
(and participate in optional 1 hour interview to receive additional $35 Amazon gift card.)
Student Researchers:
Caryn Tran (PhD Candidate)
Kristin Fasiang (PhD Candidate)
Kalliope Gaggos (Undergraduate student)
Principal Investigator: Eleanor O'Rourke, Professor of Computer Science and Learning Sciences
Students will answer a short survey about their programming preferences and perceptions.
Interested and selected students will be contacted for an optional follow-up interview.
Students must:
Be between the ages of 13 and 18,
Have no more than 1 year of formal high school-level Computer Science or Programming coursework.
If a student is currently enrolled in a Computer Science/Programming class, that’s great!
If a student has taken any courses prior to high school or outside of school, that’s okay too!
Have experience using an educational programming environment, ie:
Scratch, Snap, MakeCode, CodeHS, Alice, CodeCombat, Code.org, AppInventor, etc.
Students will be compensated $15 to $45 ($15 for the 10-15 min survey, $35/hr for the interview) in Amazon gift cards.
Students will see what research looks like (learning sciences and human-computer interaction research).
Students will reflect on their preferences and perceptions of programming and learn about new tools for learning programming.
More?! I’m happy to brainstorm any other ideas that you might think will benefit students!
Survey (taken at any time) runs 10-15 minutes.
