Student Learning Guide:
Differentiated Instruction
As this unit is designed to be taught in a North Carolina public school, we are obligated to serve all students, including those with exceptionalities. Differentiated instruction is demonstrated in the following ways:
Student Choice and Voice in Products: Students will choose the medium in which they wish to create their individual formative and summative assessments.
Instruction Mediums: A variety of web tools and content will be shared with students to help them master their new content. Resources will be in multiple formats for students.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): All materials housed in our Canvas course must meet UDL standards to help ensure accessibility compliance for students with exceptionalities. Instructors must consider content accessibility when sharing or creating supplemental materials for students and provide scaffolding as needed to meet the needs of all students.
Personalized Feedback: All submissions will receive detailed, personalized feedback to help students identify where they are doing well and areas in which they may have knowledge gaps. All students will meet with the instructor one on one after submitting the rough draft of the summative assessment. Instructors will explain to the students where they may be missing important information and should provide resources to help students bridge the gaps.
Exit Ticket Submissions: Students should be asked to complete exit tickets similar to the example each week to help the instructor determine where students may be struggling and provide additional support in those areas as needed.
Continued Opportunities for Inquiry: The instructor will continue to guide students through sustained inquiry by using the guiding questions as students work through their course content and prepare their final product of the comprehensive financial plan for their client. Students will also have opportunities to generate their own unique questions to share in class and through their exit tickets. The instructor will need to guide students and encourage them to ask questions as they work through the course. The instructor should allocate time as needed to address those questions and have class discussions around some of those topics for deeper learning as the course progresses.
