I have become increasingly passionate about women's rights and period poverty is an issue that affects women of all nationalities, ages, races, and income levels. Through my research it was most interesting to see how period poverty affects women differently, many women in the Global North face the pink tax, a higher price for feminine products compared to the same products marketed towards males. Meanwhile, women in the Global South face social stigma regarding menstruation leading to a lack of basic sanitation and menstruation products, leaving school at a young age, and being put in personal danger. I am interested in further investigating period poverty and how the intersections of society, politics, and culture impact women and their menstrual health; as well as advocating for policy that works to eradicate period poverty.
