Here is this week's news:
Happy New Year to you all! What a great first week of the year we have had, despite the weather!
Thank you for your good wishes and get well messages, it is much appreciated. It is great to be back.
Please can families (y2-5) who have not yet confirmed their child's attendance on the Cathedral/Mosque trip reply to Mrs Bowen urgently so that we can firm up ratio numbers for staffing and coaches.
All clubs start back next week. Because of concert being postponed due to adverse weather conditions, Mrs Mulligan is happy to continue with the Young Voices club on a Monday until we know the new concert date.
Many thanks.
Miss Gladstone

This term (the coldest term), we do gymnastics and dance as our PE activities. Trainers and socks need to be taken off for these activities. For younger children who find this difficult, please can you practice this with them at home, rather than do it for them. If they are not able to tie laces, they should have trainers with velcro straps. In addition, girls should not wear tights under tracksuit bottoms. Thank you.
Years 3 & 4 swimming lessons began this week and will run every Wednesday for ten weeks until the 18th March. Please send children in PE kit (for ease of changing) and bring their swimming kit, which should include swimming trunks or shorts/1 piece costume, goggles and a towel in a drawstring bag. Baggy beach shorts are not ideal for boys as they create drag and make it harder for them to swim, so the shorter the shorts the better, or tight swimming trunks are ideal. Girls must have a 1 piece swimming costume. If children are injured and unable to swim, they will still go to the pool and watch the lesson from the poolside. Please send a note or email accordingly. Generally, if children are well enough to be at school, they are well enough to swim. Finally, please can I ask that you check your payment status on parentpay and if you've not already paid, please can this be actioned. Thank you. Mrs Leggett.
Please see the flyers at the bottom of the newsletter regarding holiday swimming crash courses that are now available to book.
We have been made aware of a problem with a website link on several books in the “According to Humphrey” series by Betty G Birney. Unfortunately, the website address at the back of the books has been compromised and no longer leads directly to information about the books but instead leads to an inappropriate and unsafe malicious website.
Any books we had at school have already been removed from our library, but we would also ask you to check to see if you have any of these books at home. If you do and they are school books, please return them and we will ensure they are safely disposed of. If they are your own books, we would advise you to dispose of them immediately.
Thank you.
We will be taking part in this very exciting competition again. Last year, Fletcher got to the finals and gave a wonderful presentation at Gloucester Guildhall. We will be talking to the children about this next week. Please look out for further details on Class Dojo.
Congratulations to Miss Ginn who has now started a new leadership role at a school in Gloucester. Miss Ginn has been a valued and hugely talented member of our team who will be missed. She is still working with us for one day a week on a Tuesday until July 2026. Miss Taylor will be our new SENDCO from July 2026 when Mrs Abell returns from maternity leave . This gives us a lengthy period of training and transition, supported carefully by Miss Ginn.
Please remember to top up your child's ParentPay account to cover their school dinners. Your account should be in credit at all times. Many thanks.

If you live in another county and wish to select a Gloucestershire school on your application, you will need to apply to your own Local Authority’s admissions team and they will send this information to us as per the Co-ordinated Scheme. Please note that Gloucestershire County Council will not consider your request unless they receive an application from your own Local Authority.
Therefore, if you live in a Worcestershire postcode area, you will need to apply via Worcestershire County Council - please see the link below:

If you or anyone you know would like a tour of the school with your Reception 2026 child/children, please ring or speak to Mrs Bowen to book an appointment. We are happy to show you around anytime.
We have been made aware that our uniform supplier, Gooch Clothing, are no longer able to source the navy blue school cardigan. Until we can find an alternative, we are happy for you to buy any school-style navy cardigan, getting it personalised yourself if you so wish, or leaving it plain.
PE KIT: We have noticed that some children are coming in more varied items e.g. black and/or boldly branded items for PE. Please note that the PE t-shirt should be the school logo blue shirt. The school tracksuit is perfect for cold weather. Otherwise, shorts/skort/cycling shorts/joggers should be navy and unbranded. Children may wear their school jumper or cardigan instead of the tracksuit top when cold.
Apply online for pupil premium and free school meals - check to see if your child is eligible using the confidential online portal available on our website www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/free-school-meals/
You can secure a tasty free meal for your child and save yourself up to £480 per year. Plus our school receives extra funding for each eligible child registered. If you receive a qualifying benefit, we are entitled to extra funding. So even if you don’t want your child to take a free meal, you should still apply to make sure that we receive all the government funding to which we are entitled.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 already receiving an Universal Infant Free School Meal arranged by their school, will still need to apply to enable school to get any extra funding. For further information, including a list of qualifying benefits, click the link above.
I just wanted to remind parents about the most effective ways to make contact with your child's teacher should you need to. You can also advise us if your child is off school sick/unwell on the School Spider app. This is also in the communications section of the website. This document also lists all of the emails for the teachers. We kindly ask that you do not use the private messaging system on Dojo but instead use email please. Many thanks for your support as always. spaces.schoolspider.co.uk/uploads/605/page/40075479_page_file.pdf
