Here is this week's news:
Good afternoon everyone!
Thank you all for your support with the lorries in the village this week. I hope it hasn't been too onerous.
Last week on Friday evening, our Young Voices children represented Twyning School so well at the NEC in Birmingham. We were so proud of them and very grateful for all the hard work that went in to organising it.
On Tuesday, a group of children from across the school participed in the Feet First Festival in Cheltenham. Our children were a credit to the school and performed brilliantly in front of their parents and other schools. The rest of the school enjoyed a day of activities based around different countries of the world, including art and music. Thank you to everybody who helped make the day special.
Yesterday was World Book Day. Children were invited to dress up as their favourite book character and everyone looked fantastic! Hopefully, you have all now spent your free book vouchers. I would also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Mr Richard Bailey who has very kindly made a donation to school so that we can purchase new books for our library. Richard Bailey is an ex school governor who has four grown up grandchildren who were pupils here over the last 30 years or so. We are so very grateful to him for his thoughtfulness on World Book Day.
Parents evening appointments went live for booking yesterday. I hope you have all managed to book a convenient appointment. If you are having trouble please see Mrs Bowen before or after school any day.
Next week is Science Week in school. Parents are invited to come along to the School Hall on Thursday to have a look at what we have been up to. We intend to put out some displays of what the classes have been doing in their 'curiosity projects' throughout the week. Please come along between 3pm and 3:15pm and have a look.
Kind regards,
Miss Gladstone

Well done to Keira N from Owls class who represented Twyning School in the KS2 second stage of the Look Who's Talking competition. She gave a fantastic presentation to the audience under tough competition. We are very proud of Keira. Well done!
Congratulations to Daisy A from Owls Class, who has been awarded 2nd place in the Caterlink Design A Book Cover competition! 175 schools submitted entries from their children, so this is an absolutely amazing achievement Daisy! Well done!
CROSS COUNTRY SMALL SCHOOLS' CHAMPIONS
Yesterday, the fun run and presentations took place at the Vineyards for the cross country series. Unfortunately, both the Spring runs were cancelled before half term due to flooding, so the results were based on the three Autumn runs. We were so delighted to find we had a clean sweep, winning all three available trophies: Small schools' girls, boys and overall. A particularly notable achievement was Isla (3rd in the Y4/5 girls individual competition). Very well done to all our runners who took part; they should be very proud of themselves. Finally, we would like to wish Leo H, Leo N-S, Theo, Jesse, Isla, Lea and Lachlan all the best, as they represent the Tewkesbury district in the County Championships on Sunday at Ashley Manor Preparatory school in Cheltenham. To put this in context, there are 40 runners in the Tewkesbury teams selected from 11 schools. It is testament to the determination and dedication of our children that 7 of those 40 come from our small school.
Our PTFA are hosting a BINGO night on Wednesday 25th March at 7pm in the school hall. Flyers and order forms have been handed out today. Mrs Bowen will have a QR code available to scan if you would prefer to pay by applepay/android pay on your phone. Please see Mrs Bowen before or after school any day, otherwise hand your forms and cash in as usual.
Please remember to top up your child's ParentPay account to cover their school dinners. Your account should be in credit at all times. Many thanks.

On 20th March, it is Red Nose Day / Comic Relief. Children are invited to wear something red to school (or a red outfit!). We will be holding a cake sale after school, run by the School Council and Health Committee (if they are not at Netball club). Donations of cakes and bakes are welcomed please - bring donations to Mrs Bowen on the Friday morning. Many thanks.
Please can I remind you of the sessions being held at Tewkesbury Youth Support centre from 10-11.30am. Please see the following link for more details.

PE KIT: We have noticed that some children are coming in more varied items e.g. black and/or boldly branded items for PE. The school tracksuit is perfect for cold weather. Otherwise, shorts/skort/cycling shorts/joggers should be navy and unbranded. Children may wear their school jumper or cardigan instead of the tracksuit top when cold.
If you wish to book your children onto a crash course this Easter, please see the above information.
Apply online for pupil premium and free school meals - check to see if your child is eligible using the confidential online portal available on our website www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/free-school-meals/
You can secure a tasty free meal for your child and save yourself up to £480 per year. Plus our school receives extra funding for each eligible child registered. If you receive a qualifying benefit, we are entitled to extra funding. So even if you don’t want your child to take a free meal, you should still apply to make sure that we receive all the government funding to which we are entitled.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 already receiving an Universal Infant Free School Meal arranged by their school, will still need to apply to enable school to get any extra funding. For further information, including a list of qualifying benefits, click the link above.
I just wanted to remind parents about the most effective ways to make contact with your child's teacher should you need to. You can also advise us if your child is off school sick/unwell on the School Spider app. This is also in the communications section of the website. This document also lists all of the emails for the teachers. We kindly ask that you do not use the private messaging system on Dojo but instead use email please. Many thanks for your support as always. spaces.schoolspider.co.uk/uploads/605/page/40075479_page_file.pdf
