Here is this week's news:
We have had another very busy week, with parents evenings taking place amongst other things. I hope your parents evening meetings have been successful.
Today was another very successful non-uniform day - thank you for all the tombola donations for our Christmas Fair. Next Friday, 28th November, is the final Christmas Fair non-uniform day - please bring gift items for the 'secret wrapping room'. Please also see below for details of other Christmas Fair news!
Christmas Dinner letters need to be handed in by 28th November. Choices will be entered into parentpay in advance of the day as the food needs to be on order in plenty of time. If you've lost your letter please ask at the office or email Mrs Bowen.
Thank you all for buying poppies last month! Our collection for the Royal British Legion came to the grand total of £98.47.

The Travelling Book Fair trolleys are now with us. Children have had a sneak preview today. The books will be available for you to view and buy from after school on the 24th and 25th November. Please come into the Office area after school to view books. Payments can be made using your smart phone and scanning the QR codes at the time of the event, or via cash. You will need to enter your bank card details into the payment page so please your bank card with you! Books can be taken away straight after payment has been confirmed. Your spend earns credit for our school library.
Our School Christmas Fair will be on Saturday 6th December from 12-3pm. The big man himself, Father Christmas, will be there as usual with his very helpful elves. There will be stalls in the hall, with refreshments available all afternoon. Some of our older children will be running stalls in the OWLS classroom, and we will be holding our ever-popular 'Secret Wrapping Room' in Foxes classroom. This is a space where only children are allowed, to browse and buy from a selection of gifts, and then wrap and label them to take home for you for Christmas. The windows are covered too, so no peeping! Children really enjoy their secret shopping! We will shortly be selling tickets to meet Father Christmas, and raffle tickets for the wonderful christmas raffle.
If you are able to help out for a hour or two on one of the stalls, please can you let our PTFA or Mrs Bowen know your preference. Many hands make light work!!
Any queries please ask Mrs Bowen on the door in the mornings.
If you have any Christmas jumpers/dresses/tunics that your children have outgrown, please could you consider donating them to school. The PTFA want to have a rail of pre-loved christmas clothes available for sale/donations at the Christmas Fair. Our school Christmas Dinner is on 17th December and pupils are invited to wear festive jumpers/outfits for this.
Please get involved with this fun fundraiser for our Christmas Fair if you can! There will be prizes for the the best decorated and most creative jars! Last years entries were amazing and we are looking forward to seeing what you can create this time!
Please hand your completed entries to the Office by Wednesday 3rd December! Thank you!
Years 3&4 Tewkesbury and district football league 1 - Yesterday, we took part in the first part of the years 3&4 football league. We played 3 schools, losing the first to John Moore, but then raised our game massively, winning the second match 3-1 against C of E and the third 6-0 against Tirlebrook. There were some outstanding goals from several members of the team who supported each other incredibly. We look forward to the second part of the league in the spring. Well done to Lucas, Lachlan, Jacob, Charlie, Reuben, Henry D, Ewan and Sasha!
The Fleet Inn is raising money for Twyning School! We are very grateful to Ant and the team for their amazing efforts! Please support them in their endeavour if you are able, and cheer Ant's swim has been postponed due to the river being in flood! It will take place once levels drop sufficiently so please sponsor him if you can via the link below:
The quiz night was good fun - first place went to one of the school staff teams, who have kindly donated their prize (a bar tab at The Fleet) to the Christmas Fair raffle.
We are celebrating Community Week from 17th to the 22nd November 2025 and this year we are raising money for Twyning School.
Our team will be out picking litter around the village, we will be hosting a charity quiz on the 20th, the raffle will be drawn on the 21st with live music and on the 22nd, our General Manager, Ant, will be swimming the Avon!

The amount of sleep children need varies from child to child. Some children will need lots of sleep whereas others need to have a lot less sleep.
For more information have a look at this link : cambspborochildrenshealth.nhs.uk/sleep/
At different stages of development, the amount of sleep your child needs will change. This is because your brain is processing information and experiences from the day when you sleep.
Babies need a lot of sleep as they have a lot of new experiences and learn new skills. Teenagers need less sleep as they already have these experiences and basic skills.
Please note this is just a guide, keep your own child in mind when considering how much sleep your child needs:
New-born babies 0 to 4 months old – 8 to 18 hours (including naps)
Babies 4 to 12 months old - 12 to 16 hours (including naps)
Toddlers 1 to 2 years old - 11 to 14 hours (including naps)
Children 3 to 5 years old - 10 to 13 hours (including naps)
Children 6 to 12 years old - 9 to 12 hours
Teenagers 13 to 18 years old - 8 to 10 hours
We have been made aware that our uniform supplier, Gooch Clothing, are no longer able to source the navy blue school cardigan. Until we can find an alternative, we are happy for you to buy any school-style navy cardigan, getting it personalised yourself if you so wish, or leaving it plain.
PE KIT: We have noticed that some children are coming in more varied items e.g. black and/or boldly branded items for PE. Please note that the PE t-shirt should be the school logo blue shirt. The school tracksuit is perfect for cold weather. Otherwise, shorts/skort/cycling shorts/joggers should be navy and unbranded. Children may wear their school jumper or cardigan instead of the tracksuit top when cold.
Please remember to top up your child's ParentPay account to cover their school dinners. Your account should be in credit at all times so please make sure there is enough in there to cover the next few weeks. Many thanks.

SEND Sports & Social takes place every Saturday during term time at Tewkesbury Youth Support Centre, Link Road, Tewkesbury and are split into two session:
10:00 – 11:30: Ages 5–11
12:30 – 14:00: Ages 11–16
These inclusive, informal sessions are designed to give children and young people with SEND the opportunity to enjoy a variety of different sports each week — all within a supportive, fun, and confidence-building environment.
These sessions focus on enjoyment, personal development, and social connection. They’re ideal for children who may not usually engage in sport or physical activity, offering a safe space to build skills, make friends, and feel part of a community.
A strong social element is built into every session. Parents and carers are required to stay — with opportunities to chat, relax with a tea or coffee, and even join in the activities if they wish!
If your child wants to be active, have fun, and try different sports in a welcoming, non-competitive setting, SEND Sports & Social is the place to be!
Sessions cost £5 a family

Apply online for pupil premium and free school meals - check to see if your child is eligible using the confidential online portal available on our website www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/free-school-meals/
You can secure a tasty free meal for your child and save yourself up to £480 per year. Plus our school receives extra funding for each eligible child registered. If you receive a qualifying benefit, we are entitled to extra funding. So even if you don’t want your child to take a free meal, you should still apply to make sure that we receive all the government funding to which we are entitled.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 already receiving an Universal Infant Free School Meal arranged by their school, will still need to apply to enable school to get any extra funding. For further information, including a list of qualifying benefits, click the link above.
Below is the updated guidance on food safety in the EYFS. Food safety advice for children age 5 and under...
How to reduce the risk of choking Children can choke on any food.
To minimise the risk of choking:
remove any stones and pips from fruit before serving
cut small round foods (like grapes, strawberries and cherry tomatoes) lengthways and into quarters
cut large fruits (like melon) and hard fruit or vegetables (like raw apple and carrot) into slices instead of small chunks
cut sausages into thin strips rather than chunks and remove the skins (sausages should be avoided due to their high salt content)
do not give whole nuts to children under five years old
do not give whole seeds to children under five years old
cut cheese into strips rather than chunks
do not give children popcorn as a snack
do not give children marshmallows or jelly cubes from a packet, either to eat or as part of messy play activities, as they can get stuck in the throat
do not give children hard sweets
We are following this guidance in school and ask that you consider this guidance when sending in a snacks and packed lunches for your child.
We are more than happy to chop up fruit and vegetables at the beginning of playtime and at lunchtime if necessary, and sausages will be served in strips while your child is in Reception. We appreciate that some of these rules may differ from how your child is served food at home so we hope you can adjust their snack or lunch orders to ensure they are happy with their option and are prepared for this.
Many thanks.
Miss Taylor
I just wanted to remind parents about the most effective ways to make contact with your child's teacher should you need to. You can also advise us if your child is off school sick/unwell on the School Spider app. This is also in the communications section of the website. This document also lists all of the emails for the teachers. We kindly ask that you do not use the private messaging system on Dojo but instead use email please. Many thanks for your support as always. spaces.schoolspider.co.uk/uploads/605/page/40075479_page_file.pdf
