Here is this week's news:
What a fantastic finish to the term and 2025 - the children have all enjoyed their Christmas fun this week, which included the school Christmas lunch and the Pantomime. They were all incredibly well behaved at the Panto - a credit to our school as usual.
The Christmas raffle was drawn on Monday and prizes have now been chosen and collected. Winning ticket numbers have been published on Class Dojo. Thank you to everybody who bought tickets and a big well to all our winners.
On behalf of all the staff I would like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and hope that you enjoy your New Year celebrations.
See you all in 2026!
Many thanks.
Miss Gladstone

Congratulations to Miss Ginn who has accepted a new leadership role at a school in Gloucester starting in January. Miss Ginn has been a valued and hugely talented member of our team who will be missed. She will still continue to work with us for one day a week on a short term basis until July 2026. Miss Taylor will be our new SENDCO from July 2026 when Mrs Abell returns from maternity leave . This gives us a lengthy period of training and transition, supported carefully by Miss Ginn.
Parentpay balances for Before and After School clubs should all be cleared by the start of the new term please. Thank you.
Reminder: Years 3 & 4 swimming lessons begin on Wednesday 7th January and then every Wednesday for ten weeks until the 18th March. Please send children in PE kit (for ease of changing) and bring their swimming kit, which should include swimming trunks or shorts/1 piece costume, goggles and a towel in a drawstring bag. Baggy beach shorts are not ideal for boys as they create drag and make it harder for them to swim, so the shorter the shorts the better, or tight swimming trunks are ideal. Girls must have a 1 piece swimming costume. If children are injured and unable to swim, they will still go to the pool and watch the lesson from the poolside. Please send a note or email accordingly. Generally, if children are well enough to be at school, they are well enough to swim. Finally, please can I ask that you check your payment status on parentpay and if you've not already paid, please can this be actioned. Thank you. Mrs Leggett.
Please remember to top up your child's ParentPay account to cover their school dinners. Your account should be in credit at all times so please make sure there is enough in there to cover the next few weeks. Many thanks.

A message to all, from our local carol singers:
The ancient tradition of singing carols round the houses and in front of the shop, has been maintained in this village for many years with a dedicated band of singers coming out every year. Come and join in singing carols round Twyning! Children are welcome to come join in if they bring someone to supervise them. New singers are always very welcome so please consider coming along for any of the following dates:
Sat 20th Dec 10-11am carols at the shop
Sun 21st Dec 4pm candlelight carol service at the church
Mon 22nd Dec 6pm meeting at the Chapel in Paxhill Lane
Tues 23rd Dec 6pm meeting at the main road end of Lynworth Lane
Weds 24th Dec 5pm for Christingle Service in St Mary’s Church in Church End
Thurs 25th Dec 9.30 for Christmas Day family Communion service.
This year’s Christingle will be held on 24th December 2025 at 5.00pm at St Mary Magdalene Church. If you are at home this Christmas and have friends and family staying, come along on Christmas Eve and help raise funds for those children who are less fortunate. It really is a fantastic way to start Christmas.
Children were given a donation candle box to take home last week. Please fill it (as much as you are able) and they can bring it with them to this year's Christingle.
Thank you
Lorna Herold, for St Mary Magdalene Church, Church End

Online applications for September 2026 entry are only open until 15 January 2026. Please remember to complete your application in good time! Even if your child has a sibling in school, you do still need to apply for a space.
Further information can be found here www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/school-admissions/admissions-to-reception-at-primary-school-3-junior-school-lower-to-middle-school-places-for-september-2024/
If you live in another county and wish to select a Gloucestershire school on your application, you will need to apply to your own Local Authority’s admissions team and they will send this information to us as per the Co-ordinated Scheme. Please note that Gloucestershire County Council will not consider your request unless they receive an application from your own Local Authority.
Therefore, if you live in a Worcestershire postcode area, you will need to apply via Worcestershire County Council - please see the link below:
Applications for a Reception place in Worcestershire for September 2026 are open from September 1, 2025, and close on January 15, 2026. You will receive notification of your child's school place on April 16, 2026. You must apply online through the Worcestershire County Council admissions portal. 16 April 2026 : Allocation Day
If you or anyone you know would like a tour of the school with your Reception 2026 child/children, please ring or speak to Mrs Bowen to book an appointment. We are happy to show you around anytime.
We have been made aware that our uniform supplier, Gooch Clothing, are no longer able to source the navy blue school cardigan. Until we can find an alternative, we are happy for you to buy any school-style navy cardigan, getting it personalised yourself if you so wish, or leaving it plain.
PE KIT: We have noticed that some children are coming in more varied items e.g. black and/or boldly branded items for PE. Please note that the PE t-shirt should be the school logo blue shirt. The school tracksuit is perfect for cold weather. Otherwise, shorts/skort/cycling shorts/joggers should be navy and unbranded. Children may wear their school jumper or cardigan instead of the tracksuit top when cold.
Apply online for pupil premium and free school meals - check to see if your child is eligible using the confidential online portal available on our website www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/free-school-meals/
You can secure a tasty free meal for your child and save yourself up to £480 per year. Plus our school receives extra funding for each eligible child registered. If you receive a qualifying benefit, we are entitled to extra funding. So even if you don’t want your child to take a free meal, you should still apply to make sure that we receive all the government funding to which we are entitled.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 already receiving an Universal Infant Free School Meal arranged by their school, will still need to apply to enable school to get any extra funding. For further information, including a list of qualifying benefits, click the link above.
I just wanted to remind parents about the most effective ways to make contact with your child's teacher should you need to. You can also advise us if your child is off school sick/unwell on the School Spider app. This is also in the communications section of the website. This document also lists all of the emails for the teachers. We kindly ask that you do not use the private messaging system on Dojo but instead use email please. Many thanks for your support as always. spaces.schoolspider.co.uk/uploads/605/page/40075479_page_file.pdf
