Here is this week's news:
I hope you have all had a good week. Thank you so much to all the parents who have attended our information meetings for Rabbits, Squirrels and Foxes. There will be further meetings for Hedgehogs and Owls parents.
Our PTFA met this week on Tuesday 15th at The Fleet. Thank you all who came and how lovely it was to see a few new faces too!
If you know anyone who might have children wishing to join our Reception Class next September, we are holding a New Reception 2027 Open Evening on Tuesday 20th October at 6:30pm in the School Hall. Please spread the word!
Our School Photographer Vikki Kelly is coming on Monday 28th September. If you would like photos taken with your little ones (playgroup preschoolers, babies, toddlers) please bring them along at 8:30am and she will do these before school starts.
Kind regards,
Miss Gladstone

Further to my recent dojo message, I would like to let you know that we are in the process of adding a new uniform supplier to give our families more options for buying school uniform. As soon as we are able, we will publish website and contact details for the new supplier.
In line with government guidelines, school uniform should have a maximum of three branded pieces, so that parents can buy more generic items elsewhere. Our 3 branded items are:
School jumper / School cardigan
PE jacket / new PE fleece (see below)
PE t-shirt
Our PTFA have kindly offered to supply a branded school bookbag to each new starter - we are very grateful for this.
Regarding the P.E. jacket, and following feedback, we are please to be able to offer an alternative, cheaper, branded item. Children will be able to wear a navy zip through branded fleece (no hood) as an alternative to the two-tone PE jacket. This is currently available via our current supplier, Gooch School Uniform in Cheltenham along with all other items. This new jacket could then also double up as a lighter weight coat if needed.
Please can we remind all parents that shorts/cycling shorts/leggings should be navy not black.
School dinners are £2.95 each for all children from Year 3 and above, unless you qualify for free school meals (see below for details of this). School dinner accounts should always be in credit. Please make sure you have loaded money onto your children's accounts.

The contracts manager at the construction site in the village has contacted us with some dates for when they have some large deliveries, which will require both Fleet Lane and the whole of High Street to be free from cars parked on the side of the road. We have been advised that the morning school drop off should not be affected but that people should NOT park on the roadsides during the rest of the day on these dates.
These large deliveries are currently scheduled for:
Monday 28th September
Thursday 1st October
Monday 12th October
Monday 9th November
We will update you with further information as we know it.
Please see this week's infographics. It is really interesting to see how our attendance as a school fits within the county and national statistics. At Twyning, our whole school attendance is consistently above national and local authority. It is so important that, when well, children do attend school, however, we do appreciate that children need to stay home in some circumstances - please see Is my child well enough for school? for clarification.
Please note, these current figures reflect the first two days and full week back in school when some children were still away on holiday, and we appear to have had a lot of sickness this week. We are hoping to see a good upward trend as the week's progress...
I just wanted to remind parents about the most effective ways to make contact with your child's teacher should you need to. You should advise us if your child is off school sick/unwell on the School Spider app. This is also in the communications section of the website where you can download a document that lists all of the emails for the teachers. We kindly ask that you do not use the private messaging system on Dojo but instead use email please. Many thanks for your support as always. Click this link www.twyningschool.co.uk/page/communications/140690 and then click on the blue band "contacts and emails" to download.
For every child that is entitled to free school meals the school receives extra funding to enhance provision and improve progress and outcomes for children. So please apply even if you do not wish to take up your free school meal.
Your child might be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:
Universal Credit
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.
Please note - From the start of the 2026 to 2027 academic year, eligibility is being expanded to all children from households in receipt of Universal Credit regardless of household earnings.
Your child will be able to get free school meals if they are in:
Reception
Year 1
Year 2
We still ask that you apply for free school meals so that the school does not miss out on additional funding to which it is entitled.
