Here is this week's news:
We have had a very busy week!
Yesterday evening we held our Reception 2026 Open Evening. It was lovely to meet so many new families looking to send their Children to us next year. Please see the information below regarding the application timescales.
Today it is Children in Need day - how lovely to see everyone dressed up! Thank you to our School Council and Health Committee for running the cake sale. Please see below to find out how much we have raised!
Next week we have parents evenings appointments taking place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. There will be no Young Voices club on Monday because of this.
Next week, we have a non-uniform day on Friday - please wear clothes of your choice and in exchange, bring an item for our Christmas Fair chocolate tombola or an item for our bottle tombola (or both!). Collection boxes for these items will be by the main entrance door. Thank you.
Christmas Dinner letters need to be handed in by 28th November, and school photograph forms by Monday 17th November please. If you've lost your letter please ask at the office or email Mrs Bowen. Please can I also remind Y5/6 parents that Mrs Leggett needs your £60 deposits for the residential by Monday 17th November? Many thanks.

Henry and Poppy A-T took on a 5-mile bike ride in the Forest of Dean last weekend to raise funds for Children in Need. They have also been selling colorful Pudsey keyrings to support this cause. Thank you to everybody who sponsored them or bought keyrings! If you still wish to donate, here is the link: https://gofund.me/0251b7d25 So far they have raised over £500 and they are still going! They are still doing an event tomorrow raising money at Twyning Tigers football at TRAC. Well done Henry and Poppy!
The Fleet Inn is raising money for Twyning School! We are very grateful to Ant and the team for their amazing efforts! Please support them in their endeavour if you are able, and cheer Ant on as he swims the Avon on the 22nd November! Read their story below and click the link to make a donation:
We are celebrating Community Week from 17th to the 22nd November 2025 and this year we are raising money for Twyning School.
Our team will be out picking litter around the village, we will be hosting a charity quiz on the 20th, the raffle will be drawn on the 21st with live music and on the 22nd, our General Manager, Ant, will be swimming the Avon!

Our School Christmas Fair will be on Saturday 6th December from 12-3pm. The big man himself, Father Christmas, will be there as usual with his very helpful elves. There will be stalls in the hall, with refreshments available all afternoon. Some of our older children will be running stalls in the OWLS classroom, and we will be holding our ever-popular 'Secret Wrapping Room' in Foxes classroom. This is a space where only children are allowed, to browse and buy from a selection of gifts, and then wrap and label them to take home for you for Christmas. The windows are covered too, so no peeping! Children really enjoy their secret shopping! We will be holding a couple of non-uniform days and in return we ask that children bring items for our tombolas and the wrapping room. We will shortly be selling tickets to meet Father Christmas, and raffle tickets for the wonderful christmas raffle. If you are able to help out for a hour or two on one of the stalls, please can you let our PTFA or Mrs Bowen know your preference. Many hands make light work!!
Any queries please ask Mrs Bowen on the door in the mornings.
If you or anyone you know would like a tour of the school with your Reception 2026 child/children, please ring or speak to Mrs Bowen to book an appointment. We are happy to show you around anytime.

The amount of sleep children need varies from child to child. Some children will need lots of sleep whereas others need to have a lot less sleep.
For more information have a look at this link : cambspborochildrenshealth.nhs.uk/sleep/
At different stages of development, the amount of sleep your child needs will change. This is because your brain is processing information and experiences from the day when you sleep.
Babies need a lot of sleep as they have a lot of new experiences and learn new skills. Teenagers need less sleep as they already have these experiences and basic skills.
Please note this is just a guide, keep your own child in mind when considering how much sleep your child needs:
New-born babies 0 to 4 months old – 8 to 18 hours (including naps)
Babies 4 to 12 months old - 12 to 16 hours (including naps)
Toddlers 1 to 2 years old - 11 to 14 hours (including naps)
Children 3 to 5 years old - 10 to 13 hours (including naps)
Children 6 to 12 years old - 9 to 12 hours
Teenagers 13 to 18 years old - 8 to 10 hours
The Travelling Book Fair trolleys will be with us on the 24th and 25th November. The books will be available for you to view and buy from after school on the 24th and 25th November. Payments can be made using your smart phone and scanning the QR codes at the time of the event. Books can be taken away straight after. Your spend earns credit for our school library. We will also be running a free draw for a few children to win a £5 book voucher each to spend at the event...
We have been made aware that our uniform supplier, Gooch Clothing, are no longer able to source the navy blue school cardigan. Until we can find an alternative, we are happy for you to buy any school-style navy cardigan, getting it personalised yourself if you so wish, or leaving it plain.
PE KIT: We have noticed that some children are coming in more varied items e.g. black and/or boldly branded items for PE. Please note that the PE t-shirt should be the school logo blue shirt. The school tracksuit is perfect for cold weather. Otherwise, shorts/skort/cycling shorts/joggers should be navy and unbranded. Children may wear their school jumper or cardigan instead of the tracksuit top when cold.
Please remember to top up your child's ParentPay account to cover their school dinners. Your account should be in credit at all times so please make sure there is enough in there to cover the next few weeks. Many thanks.

SEND Sports & Social takes place every Saturday during term time at Tewkesbury Youth Support Centre, Link Road, Tewkesbury and are split into two session:
10:00 – 11:30: Ages 5–11
12:30 – 14:00: Ages 11–16
These inclusive, informal sessions are designed to give children and young people with SEND the opportunity to enjoy a variety of different sports each week — all within a supportive, fun, and confidence-building environment.
These sessions focus on enjoyment, personal development, and social connection. They’re ideal for children who may not usually engage in sport or physical activity, offering a safe space to build skills, make friends, and feel part of a community.
A strong social element is built into every session. Parents and carers are required to stay — with opportunities to chat, relax with a tea or coffee, and even join in the activities if they wish!
If your child wants to be active, have fun, and try different sports in a welcoming, non-competitive setting, SEND Sports & Social is the place to be!
Sessions cost £5 a family

Apply online for pupil premium and free school meals - check to see if your child is eligible using the confidential online portal available on our website www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/free-school-meals/
You can secure a tasty free meal for your child and save yourself up to £480 per year. Plus our school receives extra funding for each eligible child registered. If you receive a qualifying benefit, we are entitled to extra funding. So even if you don’t want your child to take a free meal, you should still apply to make sure that we receive all the government funding to which we are entitled.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 already receiving an Universal Infant Free School Meal arranged by their school, will still need to apply to enable school to get any extra funding. For further information, including a list of qualifying benefits, click the link above.
Below is the updated guidance on food safety in the EYFS. Food safety advice for children age 5 and under...
How to reduce the risk of choking Children can choke on any food.
To minimise the risk of choking:
remove any stones and pips from fruit before serving
cut small round foods (like grapes, strawberries and cherry tomatoes) lengthways and into quarters
cut large fruits (like melon) and hard fruit or vegetables (like raw apple and carrot) into slices instead of small chunks
cut sausages into thin strips rather than chunks and remove the skins (sausages should be avoided due to their high salt content)
do not give whole nuts to children under five years old
do not give whole seeds to children under five years old
cut cheese into strips rather than chunks
do not give children popcorn as a snack
do not give children marshmallows or jelly cubes from a packet, either to eat or as part of messy play activities, as they can get stuck in the throat
do not give children hard sweets
We are following this guidance in school and ask that you consider this guidance when sending in a snacks and packed lunches for your child.
We are more than happy to chop up fruit and vegetables at the beginning of playtime and at lunchtime if necessary, and sausages will be served in strips while your child is in Reception. We appreciate that some of these rules may differ from how your child is served food at home so we hope you can adjust their snack or lunch orders to ensure they are happy with their option and are prepared for this.
Many thanks.

I just wanted to remind parents about the most effective ways to make contact with your child's teacher should you need to. You can also advise us if your child is off school sick/unwell on the School Spider app. This is also in the communications section of the website. This document also lists all of the emails for the teachers. We kindly ask that you do not use the private messaging system on Dojo but instead use email please. Many thanks for your support as always. spaces.schoolspider.co.uk/uploads/605/page/40075479_page_file.pdf
