Here is this week's news:
This week, it was British Science Week. The children enjoyed some special science sessions with volunteers and staff, designing, making and experimenting. We are very grateful to the parent volunteers, Caroline Clements, Nick Reeves and Katerina Draper, who gave up their time to talk to the children this week. Thank you so much - the children absolutely loved your sessions.
Next week sees the first round in the annual inter-schools wildlife quiz. Our team are looking forward to competing against Mr Davies' new school on Tuesday and we wish them the best of luck.
On Wednesday we are hosting the Cyber-Protection Evening in the school hall - please do attend. It is set to be a very informative and interesting evening.
Please can I draw your attention to the article below regarding the PTFA. We are sadly going to be folding the committee unless people step forward to be organisers. We know there are plenty of people who offer to help at events such as discos but we need organisers please. They need a new Chair, a Treasurer and if possible a Secretary. This will have a huge impact on our children if the committee has to fold because it will mean there will be no more discos, Christmas fairs, pantomime trips etc. They do a huge amount of fundraising and we are so grateful to them. If you think that you can help, please do let us know.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend - hopefully we will have some warmth and sunshine back!

Children won't need costumes for their audition unless they progress to the final on 10th April. Good luck!
Will Parkinson and Paul Dorkings as "Too Young To Know, Too Old To Care" are playing another charity gig this year and will be donating their half of the proceeds to Twyning School PTFA. Please scan the QR code below or click this link www.ticketsource.co.uk/bucketlist to book your tickets. We are looking forward to this event, which is on Saturday 29th March in Twyning Village Hall. Please support them if you can!
Wednesday 19th March 2025, 6pm - 7:30pm in the school hall
We are looking forward to this informative event. PC Williams from Cyber Intelligence, Gloucestershire Police will be presenting an information evening for parents about safe internet use for children which I would like to urge a parent from every family to attend please. The presentation was recently shared with headteachers in Gloucestershire at a conference and it was extremely useful although at times quite hard-hitting! The Cyber Intelligence team will be able to share statistics, information and advice about how you can make your child's internet use as safe as possible. I have decided to hold a creche service in one of the classrooms so that we can support anyone who may not be able to get childcare. I have sent out a survey regarding your childcare requirements for this event - please respond if you have not already done so, so that I can arrange staffing. Many thanks. Miss Gladstone.
On Sunday morning, four of our children took part in the county cross country championships at Ashley Manor preparatory school in Cheltenham. Each race potentially had 80 runners (10 from each district). Our children placed as follows in their respective races: Isla - 42nd, Leo H - 23rd, Leo N-S - 60th and Tom - 50th. To put their achievements into context: Isla was 2nd in the Tewkesbury district places (phenomenal, as running a year young), Leo H came 2nd, Leo N-S 6th and Tom 4th. They were an absolute credit to our school. Very well done!
On Tuesday, our netball team went to the Tewkesbury district netball tournament. The competition was split into two groups to begin with. We were in a group with Tirlebrook, Gretton and Tewkesbury CofE. We started brilliantly, beating Tirlebrook 5-0 and then Gretton 4-0. We lost our last group match against Tewkesbury CofE putting us into second place in our group. This put us into the semi-finals where we were up against John Moore, who were a very good and very tall team, and sadly we lost that game. This put us into the 3rd place play off against Carrant brook. It was a well fought game which we just lost. We finished 4th out of 8 teams, and the team should feel very proud of how they played. Well done to Tom, Leighton, Josh, Masie, EJ, Livvy and Keira.
Wednesday 26th March
Tickets are now on sale for the dance festival. Please see the following link. I suggest you purchase tickets promptly as they sell out quickly. This is for the parents of the children in years 1-3 who took part in dance club before Christmas, and those in years 4-6 who have replied to the recent letter and will take part in dance club after half term.

Sadly our PTFA Committee are stepping down this year. After many years of volunteering, it is time for them to pass on the reins to a new committee. Without a new committee forming, our PTFA will have to fold. So far, no one has stepped forward to fill these roles. The minimum requirement for a committee is a Chair and a Treasurer/Secretary. Please have a think and put your name forward if you can - the existing chair and treasurer are willing to give a full handover and offer any assistance that you may need. Please see the posters in the PTFA noticeboard on the playground, or come and see Mrs Bowen if you are interested in forming a new committee and/or volunteering as a committee member. Email admin@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk .
Well done to years 3 and 4 on their efforts this year in swimming lessons. They did particularly well with the self rescue in pyjamas this week. We have two more lessons left - next week and the 2nd April. There is no swimming on the 26th March due to the Feet First dance festival. If your child does not have swimming lessons outside school, we would highly advise that they do so, if possible. School lessons alone cannot get them to a proficient standard. Tewkesbury Academy has a comprehensive lesson programme with consistent staff (including Karen and Jo who have taught our children over the last few years). Please see the flyer below.
Please can everyone make sure all school dinners accounts are in credit at all times. Many thanks.
Menus for this term are now available from the school website - click to download or ask at the office for a printed copy. www.twyningschool.co.uk/page/school-lunches/106163
Please can I remind you all that our policy is for children to drink water only as part of our healthy schools status.
Can we also remind you that we encourage the following foods as suitable snack choices at break time:
Fruit, vegetables, cheese, cereal bar, fruit bar.
We do remind children not to eat crisps and chocolate at break times where possible.
Thank you so much.
Before and After School Care
Fees for our before and after school care facility are £3.50 for a morning session and £7 for an afternoon session.
Balances should be cleared by the end of each month at the latest. Many thanks. If you use government vouchers please email Mrs Tingle at bursar@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk to advise when you have made a payment, each time you do this.

There are a lot of coughs and cold about at this time of year, as is often the case, but unless your child is really unwell (see below) we encourage you to still send them in to school. We are able to administer Calpol and antibiotics in school - forms are available from Mrs Bowen in the Office so please call in with any medication and complete one if necessary.

Please remember to report sickness/illness daily to us via School Spider or email to Mrs Bowen on admin@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk. It is important that illness is reported to school first thing in the morning, otherwise your child's absence could be recorded as an 'unauthorised absence'. If your child is frequently absent due to illness we may ask for a doctors note as per our attendance policy.
