Here is this week's news:
Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely half term. This week you should have received your child's school photograph proofs and order form, their Christmas card proofs and ordering details - please see below for further details. Deadlines for ordering Christmas Cards are next week - Wednesday 13th November.
This Wednesday our PTFA are holding their annual AGM in the hall at 7:30pm. I would urge you to attend if you are able. We need as many people as possible to attend in order that the committee can be voted in please - the number of attendees should be at least double the number of committee members. If there aren't enough attendees, the decisions made at the AGM won't be valid.
Today we welcomed John Dixon (a local historian and retired teacher from Tewkesbury) who ran a special assembly all about Remembrance Day, with links to our local area and people. It was great for the children to hear his words and see the presentation he gave to enhance their understanding of Remembrance.
Congratulations this week go to...

Congratulation to Miss Taylor and her partner on the birth of their beautiful baby boy Oscar - a little brother for Alfie. We wish them all well and hope to see them very soon.
The children were busy creating their very own Christmas card designs before half term, and you should have received your order details and proof this week. Please check your children's book bags! Please note that all orders MUST be completed by 13th November.
There is an increasingly vast array of jewellery and accessories coming into school! Please can I ask you to ensure that children do not wear hooped earrings, necklaces or bracelets. Nail varnish is also not permitted either. Many thanks for your support.
Many of you will remember Peggy, our school dog, who spent several years here, listening to readers, helping to settle children in class and generally giving the best cuddles when needed (to children, staff and parents!). She is still doing really well but spends most of her time doing absolutely nothing, lounging about with the cats in my home and having a very quiet life! However, we do miss having a dog visiting us in school and lots of children regularly ask us if we will have another at some point...
Bentley is my 9 year old, kind and sensible spaniel who lives a quieter life now he is a little older. He has visited school a couple of times over the last few months and has been incredibly well-behaved, enjoying the attention and fuss.
Bentley is a kind natured dog who is gentle and always wanting to please! He enjoys walks (which Peggy has been unable to do for the last few months) and will happily curl up in his basket for a long sleep!
I am keen for Bentley to visit school more often and I am therefore busy sorting all of the necessary paperwork to make this possible. If you have any questions about this, please do come and see me.
The children all had their photographs taken last term, and the proofs were all sent home on Monday 4th November. Please let us know if you've not received yours. Orders must be handed in to Mrs Bowen in the office by 19th November.
We will be joining in with Children in Need day on Friday 15th November. We are encouraging donations in return for children wearing their own clothes with something yellow/Pudsey bear (if you have anything). We will be having a cake sale after school so please bring cakes in the morning! We will also be running a danceathon so sporty clothes or clothes suitable for dancing would be preferable!
Clubs lists have been drawn up and they start next week. Some clubs are now full. Parents have all been emailed to confirm places. If you have not yet put your child's name down for a club please ring or email Mrs Bowen admin@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk
Please can I remind everybody to please be careful when you are being buzzed in through the gate, and not to hold the gate for anyone coming along behind you. We will buzz them in separately. Many thanks.
Please can we remind you that reply slips and deposits for the Pioneer centre residential should be in by Monday 11th November. Thank you to those who have done this already. If you have any issues, please contact us.
Letters have been given out today regarding swimming lessons in the spring term. These will take place on Wednesday mornings.
There are a lot of coughs and cold about at this time of year, as is often the case, but unless your child is really unwell (see below) we encourage you to still send them in to school. We are able to administer Calpol and antibiotics in school - forms are available from Mrs Bowen in the Office so please call in with any medication and complete one if necessary.

Please remember to report sickness/illness daily to us via School Spider or email to Mrs Bowen on admin@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk. It is important that illness is reported to school first thing in the morning, otherwise your child's absence could be recorded as an 'unauthorised absence'. If your child is frequently absent due to illness we may ask for a doctors note as per our attendance policy.
Please note that ALL school dinner accounts should be in credit at all times. If your child is in year 3 or above you will need to ensure that they have a credit balance loaded onto their account to cover their needs.
The cost of a school dinner is now £2.71.
If you believe your child may be entitled to free school meals, please look at this link www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/free-school-meals/apply-for-free-school-meals/
Menus for this term are now available from the school website - click to download or ask at the office for a printed copy. www.twyningschool.co.uk/page/school-lunches/106163

Mr Pope has a few spaces available for private music lessons during the school day. Please see the flyer for costs and details and email Mr Pope on aidanpopemusician@gmail.com to arrange lessons. Lessons are usually timetabled in the afternoon on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon.
We are noticing that there are a few children who are coming to school with alternative drinks such as squash or juice in their water bottles. Please can I remind you all that our policy is for children to drink water only as part of our healthy schools status.
Can we also remind you that we encourage the following foods as suitable snack choices at break time:
Fruit, vegetables, cheese, cereal bar, fruit bar.
We do remind children not to eat crisps and chocolate at break times where possible.
Thank you so much.
