Here is this week's news:
The second round of the Inter schools Nature Quiz next round was held here yesterday against Hartpury School. Sadly our team did not win but we were so impressed with their knowledge and determination against a difficult team. They certainly were a credit to us. Well done Leo N-S, Josh W, Maisie B and Eliza S.
We have a GROWING pile of jumpers in lost property! Please help us by naming uniform and also checking if the labels can still be read on a regular basis. Many thanks
Tickets are now on sale for Twyning's Got Talent at £1 each. Please see Mrs Bowen or send your money in in a named envelope. Many thanks.
The PTFA still need volunteers...
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

A huge well done to Fletcher who competed in the county final of Look Who's Talking 2025 competition! Fletcher was chosen to represent Twyning in the Tewkesbury area competition, he won that and went on to the final which was held in the Guildhall in Gloucester this morning! The competition was stiff but Fletcher did us all proud with his fantastic talk. Although he didn't win, to get to the final is an amazing achievement! Well done Fletcher!
The Government's Simpler Recycling scheme came into effect today for schools, and encourages us to separate and recycle waste into glass (washed), metal (washed), plastic (washed), paper and food waste - with food waste bins mandatory. We have made the decision to send all packed lunch box rubbish home. This already happens in many other schools and seems the easiest way to deal with mixed unwashed rubbish from lunch boxes. Children have been told to keep all of their rubbish and put it in their lunch boxes after they have eaten. We hope you will support us with this. Classrooms now have food waste bins and always have had paper and cardboard bins which we continue to use.
On Tuesday, 11 children represented Twyning in the district tag festival at Tewkesbury rugby club. They played superbly as a team, working hard to score tries and defend by tagging the opposition. As with all primary rugby events, there are no team medal winners and the focus is on enjoyment and improvement. However, there was a medal awarded to a child from each school for showing the School Games values of determination, passion, respect, honesty, teamwork and self belief. This medal went to Josh in our Twyning team. Well done to all our players: Josh, Tom, Leighton, Leo N-S, Henry R, Zane, Jack, Ethan, Eva-Jayne, Holly P and Isla. We would also like to thank Pete Healey for coaching our team this term and supporting us at this event.
On Monday we took 12 children to an indoor athletics competition at Cheltenham College sports centre. They all took part in several track and field events each, performing brilliantly. We were the only Tewkesbury school to attend this event, and were delighted to come home with silver medals in the small schools' competition. Well done to Tom, Josh, Leighton, Lewis, Leo N-S, Leo H, Eliza, Arianne, Nika, Scarlett, Maisie and Livvy.
Please can everyone make sure all school dinners accounts are in credit at all times. Many thanks.
Menus for this term are now available from the school website - click to download or ask at the office for a printed copy. www.twyningschool.co.uk/page/school-lunches/106163
As you all know, our PTFA Committee are stepping down this year. Without a new committee forming, our PTFA will have to fold. We have had one parent step forward to be Treasurer but we will still need a Chair and also preferably a Secretary in order to continue as a PTFA. Please have a think and put your name forward if you can - the existing chair and treasurer are willing to give a full handover and offer any assistance that you may need. Please see the posters in the PTFA noticeboard on the playground, or come and see me or Mrs Bowen if you are interested in forming a new committee and/or volunteering as a committee member. Email admin@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk .
Please can I remind you all that our policy is for children to drink water only as part of our healthy schools status.
Can we also remind you that we encourage the following foods as suitable snack choices at break time:
Fruit, vegetables, cheese, cereal bar, fruit bar.
We do remind children not to eat crisps and chocolate at break times where possible.
Thank you so much.

There are a lot of coughs and cold about at this time of year, as is often the case, but unless your child is really unwell (see below) we encourage you to still send them in to school. We are able to administer Calpol and antibiotics in school - forms are available from Mrs Bowen in the Office so please call in with any medication and complete one if necessary.

Please remember to report sickness/illness daily to us via School Spider or email to Mrs Bowen on admin@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk. It is important that illness is reported to school first thing in the morning, otherwise your child's absence could be recorded as an 'unauthorised absence'. If your child is frequently absent due to illness we may ask for a doctors note as per our attendance policy.
