Here is this week's news:
I hope you have all had a good week.
If you know anyone who might have children wishing to join our Reception Class next September, we are holding a New Reception 2027 Open Evening on Tuesday 20th October at 6:30pm in the School Hall. Please spread the word!
Please all read the guidelines published by the NHS (see link in blue). We are able to administer medication in school if there is a need. It is so important that, when well enough, children do attend school, however, we do appreciate that children need to stay home in some circumstances - please see Is my child well enough for school? for clarification.
Kind regards,
Miss Gladstone
Congratulations this week go to...

Yesterday, the second race of the series took place at the Vineyards. As there have been fewer year 6 boys this year, all boys raced together yesterday (as the girls). This means that some of the boys may have placed further down than last week. I have explained that this is due to more participants in the race. It is amazing that we have so many runners - almost half our Owls and Hedgehogs children are taking part. Our top 20 performers this week were Isla (5th), Lea (7th), Willow (14th), Ada (15th), Grace (18th), Lachlan (14th) and Toby (15th). Congratulations to all our runners - we are very proud of them. Team Twyning this week were: Joe, Isla, Lea, Evie, Ivy, Bonnie, Ada, Evelyn, Matilda, Lydia, Willow, Lachlan, Charlie N, William B, Toby, Charlie H, Jack N-S, Jack W, Ewan, Bertie, Robert, Xander, Henry A-T, Gabriel, Grace, Lily and Olivia. There is a break next week due to potential Mop Fair preparation in town. We will have a training practice at school instead, finishing at 4.15pm. Race 3 will take place on Thursday 15th October. Letters will be given out next week. Mrs Leggett.
School dinners are £2.95 each for all children from Year 3 and above, unless you qualify for free school meals (see below for details of this). School dinner accounts should always be in credit. Please make sure you have loaded money onto your children's accounts.

Please see this week's infographics. It is really interesting to see how our attendance as a school fits within the county and national statistics. At Twyning, our whole school attendance is consistently above national and local authority. It is so important that, when well, children do attend school, however, we do appreciate that children need to stay home in some circumstances - please see Is my child well enough for school? for clarification.
Please note, these current figures reflect the first few weeks back in school when some children were still away on holiday, and we had a lot of sickness. We are hoping to see a good upward trend as the week's progress...
We will soon be able to provide details regarding our new uniform supplier who will run alongside Gooch as an option for buying school uniform.
In line with government guidelines, school uniform should have a maximum of three branded pieces, so that parents can buy more generic items elsewhere. Our 3 branded items are:
School jumper / School cardigan
PE jacket / new PE fleece (see below)
PE t-shirt (new style royal blue t-shirt will be available soon)
Our PTFA have kindly offered to supply a branded school bookbag to each new starter - we are very grateful for this.
We are now offering an alternative, cheaper, branded item to the two-tone PE jacket. Children will be able to wear a navy zip through branded fleece (no hood) which is currently available via our Gooch School Uniform in Cheltenham along with all other items. This new jacket could then also double up as a lighter weight coat if needed.
Please can we remind all parents that shorts/cycling shorts/leggings/joggers should be navy not black.
See the above flyer for information regarding the new style Grammar School tests which will take place in July 2027 for September 2028 entry into Year 7. This will affect families with children currently in Year 5 and below. This applies to ALL Gloucestershire Grammar Schools, not just Denmark Road High School.
The contracts manager at the construction site in the village has contacted us with some dates for when they have some large deliveries, which will require both Fleet Lane and the whole of High Street to be free from cars parked on the side of the road. We have been advised that the morning school drop off should not be affected but that people should NOT park on the roadsides during the rest of the day on these dates.
These large deliveries are currently scheduled for:
Monday 28th September (this was brought forward to 24th Sept)
Thursday 1st October
Monday 12th October
Monday 9th November
We will update you with further information as we know it.
I just wanted to remind parents about the most effective ways to make contact with your child's teacher should you need to. You should advise us if your child is off school sick/unwell on the School Spider app. This is also in the communications section of the website where you can download a document that lists all of the emails for the teachers. We kindly ask that you do not use the private messaging system on Dojo but instead use email please. Many thanks for your support as always. Click this link www.twyningschool.co.uk/page/communications/140690 and then click on the blue band "contacts and emails" to download.
For every child that is entitled to free school meals the school receives extra funding to enhance provision and improve progress and outcomes for children. So please apply even if you do not wish to take up your free school meal.
Your child might be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:
Universal Credit
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.
Please note - From the start of the 2026 to 2027 academic year, eligibility is being expanded to all children from households in receipt of Universal Credit regardless of household earnings.
Your child will be able to get free school meals if they are in:
Reception
Year 1
Year 2
We still ask that you apply for free school meals so that the school does not miss out on additional funding to which it is entitled.
