Here is this week's news:
Good afternoon all! It has been lovely to see everyone back this term looking refreshed and ready for the busy term ahead! I hope that you are enjoying this glorious weather as much as I am and that you have some great plans for the bank holiday weekend!
Class Splits for Year 2 and Year 5 in September 2025
Those of you with children in the current Year 1 and Year 4 will soon receive information about your children's classes for September - I know that the teachers have had conversations with you all and are busy taking into consideration all of your thoughts. It is a complex decision process which the staff have spent time working on. We plan to let you all know by email on Monday 12th May. There will then be an optional parents meeting on Wednesday 14th May if you would like to discuss the decision further.
Please note the following:
We endeavour to do all we can to ensure that we have considered all groupings and friendship groups. Please remember that this is only the class base. The Year 2 children are all taught together as one group for Maths every day. There are multiple opportunities for the Y2 and Y5 children to work together in their year groups during each term.
The split is decided using various factors - it is NOT ability based. This means that there will be an equal mix of ability within each class - we do not consider that children are "Kept back" or "Pushed on". Instead our aim is to ensure that every child is challenged and given the opportunity to thrive.
We are so proud of our small school and the way that our mixed age structure has enabled all children to reach their full potential during their time at Twyning. Our mixed age class system is entirely necessary for the size of our school and the number of pupils who attend - we see it as hugely positive.
I hope that you all have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 6th May next week!
Miss Gladstone

The new menu is out and is now available from the school website - click to download or ask at the office for a printed copy. www.twyningschool.co.uk/page/school-lunches/106163
On Thursday 8th May we will be joining in with the National VE Day 80 celebrations.
As part of our celebrations we would like to have a small picnic with the children in the afternoon, therefore we would like children to bring a food contribution as follows:
Reception, Y1 & 2: please bring savoury items
Years 3, 4, 5 & 6: please bring sweet items
We will provide squash and water.
If your child has an allergy and you would prefer to send in a small named plate of food specifically for them, we will keep it aside for them.
Thank you for your help with this important event.
Before and After School Care
Balances MUST be cleared each month by the end of the month. Thank you.
Fees for our before and after school care facility are £3.50 for a morning session and £7 for an afternoon session.
Balances should be cleared by the end of each month at the latest. Many thanks. If you use government vouchers please email Mrs Tingle at bursar@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk to advise when you have made a payment, each time you do this.
How do I register my child?
To register for Before or After School Club, please complete and send in the booking form which can be downloaded from our website or ask Mrs Bowen for a printed copy. These forms should be returned to Mrs Bowen at admin@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk .
Please can we remind you to thoroughly sun cream your children before school and send hats, especially on PE days, as we move into summer. Thank you.
There will be a parents meeting on Thursday 22nd May at 6pm regarding the residential to Macaroni Wood. We realise that year 4 parents may not wish (or need) to attend again, and letters/information will be given directly to your children on Friday 23rd May if not in attendance.
On Wednesday we attended the Move More tag rugby festival at Newlands Park. Thirty-one teams attended from Cheltenham and Tewkesbury. We played ten games, winning three, drawing four and losing three. Our children showed excellent teamwork and skill, and even in games they lost, they persevered with determination. This was a fantastic performance as some of the Cheltenham schools are three form entry with potentially ninety children in each year group from which to choose. Well done to Josh, Tom, Leighton, Jack, Zane, Holly, Eva-Jayne, Isla, Ethan, Leo N-S and Henry R.
As you all know, our PTFA Committee are stepping down this year. Without a new committee forming, our PTFA will have to fold. We have had one parent step forward to be Treasurer but we will still need a Chair and also preferably a Secretary in order to continue as a PTFA. Please have a think and put your name forward if you can - the existing chair and treasurer are willing to give a full handover and offer any assistance that you may need. Please see the posters in the PTFA noticeboard on the playground, or come and see me or Mrs Bowen if you are interested in forming a new committee and/or volunteering as a committee member. Email admin@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk .
The children really enjoyed their cricket day back in January. As cricket is traditionally a summer sport, the opportunity to begin programmes at Tewkesbury cricket club is now open.
All Stars is for children aged 5-8 years and booking has recently opened, with the sessions starting 6 June at Tewkesbury. The link for parents to book children in at Tewkesbury is Clubspark / All Stars / Coaching / Course
Junior training for age 9 upwards takes place on Friday evenings as follows:
Please can I remind you all that our policy is for children to drink water only as part of our healthy schools status.
Can we also remind you that we encourage the following foods as suitable snack choices at break time:
Fruit, vegetables, cheese, cereal bar, fruit bar.
We do remind children not to eat crisps and chocolate at break times where possible.
Thank you so much.
Please see the information below about some excellent family events coming up in Tewkesbury. If your child enjoyed their history trip to Tewkesbury last month, they may like to attend these events.
The Government's Simpler Recycling scheme came into effect today for schools, and encourages us to separate and recycle waste into glass (washed), metal (washed), plastic (washed), paper and food waste - with food waste bins mandatory. We have made the decision to send all packed lunch box rubbish home. This already happens in many other schools and seems the easiest way to deal with mixed unwashed rubbish from lunch boxes. Children have been told to keep all of their rubbish and put it in their lunch boxes after they have eaten. We hope you will support us with this. Classrooms now have food waste bins and always have had paper and cardboard bins which we continue to use.

There are a lot of coughs and cold about at this time of year, as is often the case, but unless your child is really unwell (see below) we encourage you to still send them in to school. We are able to administer Calpol and antibiotics in school - forms are available from Mrs Bowen in the Office so please call in with any medication and complete one if necessary.

Please remember to report sickness/illness daily to us via School Spider or email to Mrs Bowen on admin@twyning.gloucs.sch.uk. It is important that illness is reported to school first thing in the morning, otherwise your child's absence could be recorded as an 'unauthorised absence'. If your child is frequently absent due to illness we may ask for a doctors note as per our attendance policy.
