Heather and Ed Pert from the California Department of Fish & Wildlife will be joining us!
Heather Pert is Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). She has worked with CDFW since 2007. She started in the Lands program in Sacramento and then in 2008 transferred to Inland Deserts Region based out of Ontario, CA working in the Lake and Streambed Alteration program, mitigation compliance on permits, and developing grants for large conservation plans – Natural Community Conservation Plans (NCCP). In 2011, Heather promoted to lead scientist of the NCCP program for the Western Riverside and Coachella Valley Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plans. In 2018, she promoted to supervisor of the Habitat Conservation Planning program managing programs such as California Environmental Quality Act, California Endangered Species Act, Lake and Streambed Alteration, and NCCP. Prior to working for CDFW Heather worked for the U.S. Forest Service hydrology and fisheries research program for nine years in Northern California and then six years on Southern Research Station Coldwater Fisheries Research Unit in Blacksburg, Virginia. She graduated from Humboldt State University with a double major in Fisheries and Oceanography, a Masters from UC Berkeley in Wildland Resource Science and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in Wildlife and Fisheries Management with an emphasis on riparian management and public involvement. In her spare time, she enjoys crocheting, playing with her dog Biscuit, searching for treasures in thrift stores with her husband Ed, and experimenting with land management techniques for weed and ant control in her mostly native garden.
Ed Pert recently retired as Regional Manager and is currently wrapping up some projects before he fully retires. Ed enjoys fishing, pickleball, riding his longboard skateboard, and exercising. He will be doing much more of each of these very soon, along with many household tasks that he’s put off for way too long.
