I am Ivy Grace Jorlano Aborde, a licensed Professional Teacher from Quezon Province, Philippines. I am a graduate of Bachelor of Elementary Education, Cum Laude and holds a degree in Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Management. Throughout my academic journey and professional experiences, I have come to realize the transformative power of education in shaping lives and building a brighter future.
I started my teaching career as an online English teacher to students from China, Malaysia, Thailand and Saudi Arabia aged from 3 years old to 60 years old. As my very first job, it laid the groundwork for my growth as a person and a professional. Interacting with students from various countries and cultures helped me become more aware of cultural differences. It also improved my ability to give engaging, student-focused lessons in an online setting.
I also became an elementary teacher in a public school in the Philippines. My first year of teaching was very challenging because I was assigned in a far-flung area where I was a multi-grade teacher handling Grade 5 and 6 students in one classroom. The next year, I got lucky and was moved to a nearby, medium-sized school where I took on the rewarding job of teaching kindergarten. Teaching in my homeland has been a worthwhile adventure. It's more than work, it's a way to help others.
With a desire to learn and develop, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and took a leap of faith. I became an English teacher in Vietnam working with students from kindergarten to Grade 11. That job helped me grow professionally and personally as I improved my classroom management, communication skills, and cultural adaptability.
These experiences prepared me for greater opportunities, and now I’m proud to be a Foreign English Teacher at Wan Sing Elementary School in Erlin township, Changhua County, Taiwan.
I joined the school last September 2024 and being a member of them has made me feel incredibly fortunate and blessed. I have been welcomed since day one by a community that treasures collaboration, assistance, and sincere care. It has been an excellent experience to work with such passionate professionals and empathetic students, and I am highly thankful to be able to develop and serve in this fantastic school.
My teaching philosophy focuses on the belief that learning is the deepest and its highest when students are actively engaged and feel a strong sense of ownership on their educational journey. I cultivate a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. My practice is a student-centered approach. I believe that each student brings a unique set of experience, attitude and learning styles to the classroom. Therefore, I prioritize my instructions to understand and meet their personal needs. To make the learning experience engaging and motivated, I integrate the game -based learning approach. I believe that the class is a vibrant place where learning is not just a task, but a nice adventure. My goal is to create a class where students feel valuable, challenge and happy to learn. By combining a student-centered approach with the attractive power of game-based learning, my purpose is not just educational understanding, but important skills such as important thinking, creativity, communication and collaborative skills that will give them the opportunity to grow in the world. I believe that when learning is relevant, students not only acquire knowledge but they also develop a passion for learning that will last a lifetime.
