Homework

Research has shown that homework has limited effects on students' performance and progress, especially for kids of first grade age. The number one factor for student success is reading and being read to at home. Please spend some time reading with your children each day. A great goal would be about 15 minutes each day. Every week, we focus on a specific sound or spelling set in the classroom.

A spelling list will be sent home each Monday with some suggestions of games and activities to practice spelling words, but nothing needs to be returned to school. Spelling tests will be on Fridays.

We also focus on 6-8 High Frequency Words every week. This list will also go home every Monday so you can continue practicing, memorizing, and using these words, but again, nothing needs to be returned to school. Please turn over this paper for suggested ways to practice High Frequency Words at home.

A Homework Math Book will be sent home at the start of every trimester. Each week, suggested pages will be listed for your child to practice current and review problems at home.

That is it for homework this year. Nothing needs to be returned to school! Enjoy the extra family time together.
