Through scientific data collection, direct hands-on learning, and studying of the complex relationship of humans and their use of resources, students will understand how we are connected to the environment, use resources, and determine ways to better utilize the finite resources we have. Students will engage in scientific data collection, experimental design, scientific writing and statistical analysis to gain an intimate understanding of the resources and opportunities California has to offer. Students will gain an understanding of the use and distribution of natural resources of California. They will study the exploration, acquisition, refining and distribution of natural resources occur. Furthermore, students will understand how the laws, both federal and state, affect what resources are available for private and corporate use as well as why some resources are or are not economically viable. Finally, students will complete scientific studies, do experimentation to test student-developed hypotheses, gather qualitative and quantitative data, and write research studies on land management practices.
