Judo is a Japanese martial art founded by Dr. Jigoro Kano that evolved from Japanese Jujutsu in 1882. Directly translating to "gentle way", judo emphasizes using your opponent's force against them, rather than relying on your own strength.
Judokas (judo practitioners) use techniques such as throws, pins, arm locks, and chokes rather than striking techniques such as kicking or punching.
Twin Cities Judo is a non-profit, grassroots judo club established in 2014 by founder/president Ken Otto, who has been teaching judo in Saint Paul Rec Centers for over 25 years.
