TWICE EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS: The definition of 2E students or Twice Exceptional: students who have characteristics of giftedness while at the same time have academic and or/social-emotional challenges indicative of a disability. These students often do not fit the stereotypical characteristics of studens with giftedness or a disability. Identification can be difficult and the process should focus on the early recognition of learning behaviors related to the student's area of giftedness and area of disability. Each individal 2E student will have his/her own unique combination of strengths and challenges so educators' educational responses must be tailored for each student. The most important elements to achieve success are clear communication, common language, and identified role expectations.(Lines, Miller, & Arthur-Stanley, 2011) Family and schools will need to work closely together to create and modify a successful plan for these children. In order to do this, educators will need professional development. (Introduction to Gifted Education, Roberts, Inman, Robbins) In this section I will be sharing articles, powerpoints, videos, etc. pertaining to Twice Exceptional Students.
