Warren Wise, a true STEM education champion, has been inspiring and educating students for over 18 years in Columbia, South Carolina. He has dedicated his career to teaching a wide range of subjects including Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Intro to Engineering, Graphic Design, and Middle Level Science. Warren received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Benedict College, a Master's degree in Educational Technology from Boise State University, and an Education Specialist degree from Liberty University.
In addition to his career as an educator, Warren served as a Chemical Operations Specialist in the United States Army Reserves and acquired the rank of Sergeant. His remarkable teaching career has been recognized with numerous awards, including being inducted into the Center For Disease Control’s Science Ambassador Fellowship Program in 2018 and being named SC’s Inaugural STEM Educator of the Year in 2019. He was also awarded SC’s NAACP Presidential Citation Award in Education Advocacy in the same year.
Warren's innovative and dedicated teaching approach has led to remarkable successes in his school district. He led his district in applying for a UBTECH Early Innovator Grant, which led to the successful acquisition of 32 robotic kits, making his district one of only 22 in the country to receive this grant. His students have excelled in competitions as well, with his team of elementary students becoming state finalists in the eCybermission Competition and receiving college scholarships.
Warren's passion for STEM education extends beyond the classroom. He has taught at Allen University and Benedict College’s Cybersecurity K-12 Programs, and was a USC Apple Core Initiative Advisory Board Member. His outstanding work as an educator has been recognized on a national level, with Warren being chosen as one of 18 teachers from around the country as a PBS Digital Innovator All-Star in 2019 and a state finalist for the 2020 PAEMST.
Even amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Warren's passion and dedication to his students has not faltered. He has led his students to create an aquaponics lab at his school through a partnership with NSTA and Clemson University as part of NSTA’s Next Generation STEM Teaching Project. Additionally, Warren is currently a part of South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program. His students live by the words he preaches: "You should always become better than you were yesterday."
