Thursday Daily Reprieve AA Meeting Format
Leader’s guide notes are underlined & in bold
Welcome
Welcome to the Thursday night Daily Reprieve AA Meeting, my name is ____ and I’m an alcoholic.
AA Preamble
“Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.”
The Serenity Prayer
Will all those who care to please join me in the Serenity Prayer?
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen.”
Introducing the “Big Book”
This book, Alcoholics Anonymous, commonly referred to as “The Big Book”, is the basic textbook of AA. If you feel you may have a problem with alcohol we recommend you read it. The first 164 pages detail AA’s Twelve Step recovery program. The second section of the book contains personal recovery stories from a diverse group of Alcoholics and their path to recovery. If you would like a copy of the Big Book please see me after the meeting.
Our meeting format
This is an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous, all are welcome to attend but we ask that only those with a desire to stop drinking share at this meeting. We are glad you are all here.
To maintain our meeting’s focus, we do not celebrate periods of sobriety nor sign attendance cards. If you would like to find meetings which do, our local AA website, www.aaventuracounty.org and meeting directories provide details of over 400 meetings each week in this area.
All announcements and group business discussions are handled at our regular group conscience/business meeting, at 8:10 pm on the first Thursday of each month.
The Twelve Traditions
Can I have a volunteer to read our 12 Traditions? (Printed below)
7th Tradition Reminder
As our 7th tradition states -
“Every A.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.”
We request those who can make a donation to help cover meeting costs (eg Room ). To avoid disrupting the meeting flow, 7th tradition boxes are available on the table.
Section From pages 84 & 85 of ‘Big Book’
Can I have a volunteer to read a section of Step 10 from the Big Book? (printed below)
Meeting Focus
This meeting aims to help focus on today. On what we have done, are doing and what we can do today to continue to obtain and maintain a “fit spiritual condition”. While there is no specific time restriction on sharing, the meeting leader may in a spirit of love and tolerance, politely request you finish sharing if they feel it necessary to ensure the flow of the meeting. The meeting is now open for sharing.
Close at around 7:55 PM
We have come to the end of our meeting, if you were unable to share,
please join us in fellowship after the meeting closes, to share your
thoughts with any of us.
Moment of Silence and Leaders Choice of Prayer
Please join me in a moment of silence for the alcoholic who still suffers.
Followed by your choice of prayer.
