Should arrive shortly before 4:30pm when the TVUUC office staff leaves to let our guests into the building and greet them. Remind them that dinner is at 6pm. Other duties include:
-setting tables
-making lemonade
-make tea
-set up water service
-set out one or two choices for juice
-set out dishes and utensils
-doing dishes (we will show you how or will come in and wash them) Yes, they need to be sanitized by going through the dish washer.
Guests should help (if they want) with clearing tables, wiping tables, and sweeping.
Dinner hosts should plan to leave around 8pm when the Overnight Hosts arrive. The Dinner hosts should stay until at least one of the Overnight Hosts arrive.
Prepare a meal or part of a meal, which ever you signed up for. Please look at any previously listed main courses to avoid duplication from night to night. Simple meals are best. Think casseroles, meat and veggies, chili and crackers, chicken and rice, spaghetti, hamburgers etc. Desert is nice but we will have ice cream and store bought cookies on hand. We provide drinks.
Don't let your budget keep you from participating in cooking. You can be reimbursed for reasonable expenses by turning in your receipts.
Dinner is served at 6pm so cook at the TVUUC kitchen, get you dish(es) to TVUUC by 5:30 if they need to be reheated, or bring them by 5:50 if they can go straight to the buffet table.
Be sure to check THE ALLERGY risks for your guests. That list is at the beginning of the sign-up sheet.
Arrive at 8pm to relieve the Dinner Hosts and can leave when all guest have left. That is usually before 7:30am.
Although not required, you may sit in the lounge and visit with the families if you like. Children should be in rooms by 9pm. Remember, the children need to be up, dressed, and ready to go around 7am. So we encourage the children to be heading to bed close to 9pm.
Turn off hall lights around 10pm and be sure the outside doors are secure.
You will find a list of phone numbers for assistance from TVUUC volunteers and Family Promise employees in the rest room area of the nursery if any need arises. This is very rare and almost never occurs. You will also find a print out of TVUUC "rules" of expected behavior for our guests.
In morning, make coffee if the guests want it and set out cereal, milk, any fruit, juice etc for a quick breakfast. Clean up before leaving. Guest are expected to leave at 7 and most are able to do so.
You are responsible to bring your own bedding (pillow, sheets, blanket.) Only an air mattress will be provided.
Happens after service on first Sunday - 12:45 - 1:45 p.m.
Rearrange, store (in room E) and cover furniture/furnishings;
Inflate mattresses;
Make up beds with bottom and top sheets, comforter and pillow case (no pillows);
Place a bath towel, hand towel and washcloth for each guest, including infants, on towel rack
Cover door window with magnetized curtain
Happens on second Sunday - 7:30-8:30 a.m.
Strip mattresses and place all bedding in laundry bag(s)
Place all towels and washcloths in laundry bag(s). If any items are wet, place on top of laundry bag.
Deflate mattresses and place in bags.
Retrieve any furniture, furnishings from Room E & restore room for RE use.
Take mattress bags to Family Promise trailer.
Place filled laundry bags in short end of RE hallway.
Remove door curtains and leave in room.
Happens second Sunday, anytime after 1pm, or during church business hours the following week.
Pick up bag(s) with your name from the short RE hallway
Launder, dry, fold the laundry and replace in laundered bag(s).
Return filled bag(s) to the blue-curtained storage room left of pulpit platform.
