American Studies 2

Welcome to American Studies 2! This course will explore American history from the end of Reconstruction in 1877 to the contemporary period. Our course will trace various themes, including political, social, cultural, and economic developments. We will look at events from a variety of perspectives and develop an understanding of how the nation became the leading superpower in the twentieth century.

In addition to content, our American Studies course will place a significant focus on skill development. We will have a look at skills necessary for academic settings (note-taking, how to read a textbook effectively, how to ask historical questions) but also skills that are more generally necessary in adult life (time-management, how to read a map, how to identify and question assumptions, how to analyze written and spoken source materials, how to develop an argument, and, most importantly, how to write effectively).

Students will be expected throughout the course of the semester to complete various projects that will hone their skills in writing, creating presentations, and using technology in powerful and practical ways. For more information please see the course syllabus included below.
