Pathways: Adult Diploma and GED

 

The Adult Diploma and GED prep programs are open to Vermonters aged 16 and up who are not currently enrolled in a high school, technical school, or college program. The Tutorial Center offers 2 pathways to a credential: the Adult Diploma Program (ADP) and the GED.



ADP

The Adult Diploma Program is a program of study for students wishing to earn a diploma from area high schools like Mt. Anthony Union, Arlington Memorial, and Burr and Burton Academy. Students complete assignments to show proficiencies in English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Civics, Science, and Financial, Digital, and Health Literacy. Students work at their own pace and instructors are here to help along the way. The TABE assessment is used to measure your progress.



GED

Although sometimes a faster pathway, the GED program focuses heavily on showing understanding of core subjects, with tests in Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. The TABE assessment is used to measure your progress and we have all the study materials and study apps here for you to prepare along with an instructor to help guide you.


GED Math: Topics include basic algebra, geometry, word problems, and an understanding of data graphs. A TI-30XS calculator may be used.


GED Language Arts:The main focus is reading comprehension, being able to analyze arguments, and understand grammar rules. Students will be asked to write a short essay in response to written materials in the test

GED Science: The shortest of the 4 GED Exams, the GED Science exam Involves reading science experiments, interpreting charts and data, and understanding life, physical, and earth sciences.

GED Social Studies: Reading and analyzing historical texts, interpreting maps and economic graphs are the focus of the GED Social Studies exam. Critical thinking is more important than memorizing facts.




In-Person Classes at TTC


The Tutorial Center in Bennington, VT offers in-person classes for students working toward their Adult Diploma or GED. Each student moves at their own pace with support from instructional and program staff. Classrooms are equipped with computers, learning applications, reference materials and study guides to help students navigate through their program. 


Students help in the development of their own learning plan and can attend in-person classes during the morning, afternoon, or evening sessions.


Morning Session: Monday-Thursday 8:30 am - 11:30 am, Fridays 9 - 12:30

Afternoon Session: Monday-Thursday 1 pm - 4 pm

Evening Session: Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30 pm - 8 pm




Remote and Hybrid Learning at TTC



Starting September 22, 2026, The Tutorial Center will offer a remote learning option for students wishing to attend Adult Diploma or GED classes virtually. 


Similarly to our in-person offerings, students will be able to access the same learning supports through our Tuesday/Thursday evening remote class option. Class support and instruction will be available online with an option to attend in-person.


Students will need to have a reliable internet connection and a device with a working camera and microphone.


Just like our in-person classes, students help in the development of their own learning plan.

The remote option is only available during our evening class hours.
