Over the past year our Group has been working with industry to create this Recommendations Report, to set out a series of tangible steps to support the UK’s new nuclear renaissance. The report follows the sessions we held focusing on different parts of the nuclear industry, with separate recommendations for each.
2025 has already been an exceptionally positive year for the sector, with major announcements including Sizewell C's Final Investment Decision (FID), Rolls-Royce SMR selection to drive the UK's Small Modular Reactor programme, and progress on Advanced Modular Reactors as highlighted during President Donald Trump’s recent state visit. However, much more can and must be done. Our report emphasises that government should name priority sites for both gigawatt-scale and SMR fleet deployment, continue coordinated investment in civil nuclear projects to unlock private capital, confirm that the Regulated Asset Base Model will apply to future large-scale projects, and publish the long-awaited Advanced Routes to Market consultation response without delay.
This report is intended to provide government and decision makers with clear guidance to help the sector grow, supporting nearly 100,000 workers, creating thousands more high-quality skilled jobs, and ensuring the continued provision of clean and secure energy. APPG members will use this report in their advocacy and discussions with government, and we strongly encourage decision makers to take on board these recommendations, developed in close collaboration with industry.
