Origins and Development:
The Seeds of Giving (1992):
The roots of the Parade of Clubs can be traced back to 1992, during the presidency of Arrilla Della McZeal at the Tuskegee National Alumni Association (TNAA).
During national conventions, President McZeal initiated impromptu appeals to delegates, encouraging them to make monetary donations to Tuskegee University.
These spontaneous acts of generosity laid the groundwork for a more structured and organized fundraising effort.
Formalization and Vision (1996):
Building upon the spirit of giving fostered by President McZeal, Willie Shellman, a past 3rd Vice President of TNAA, envisioned a formalized giving event.
He introduced the "Parade of Clubs," a structured platform for alumni clubs and individuals to contribute to Tuskegee University.
The inaugural Parade of Clubs took place in 1996 during a national convention. This first event included donations from convention delegates as well as alumni that were not in attendance, giving donations as clubs.
This event was a visionary idea that organized the giving process.
A Successful Beginning:
The first Parade of Clubs event was a resounding success, yielding an impressive $180,000 in donations.
This initial outcome demonstrated the power of collective giving and solidified the Parade of Clubs as a vital fundraising tool.
Growth and Enduring Significance:
Since its inception, the Parade of Clubs has become a cherished tradition, consistently playing a crucial role in supporting Tuskegee University's programs and initiatives.
It has evolved into a dynamic and spirited event, fostering a sense of unity and friendly competition among alumni worldwide.
