In the return to school during the COVID19 pandemic, Wakefield Middle School's Comprehensive School Counseling Program will follow the lead given by the Arizona Department of Educaton by utilizing the 'roadmap' laid out by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) to
Reunite, Renew & Thrive
in our effort to 'illuminate a way forward with social and emotional learning' embedded throughout our core curriculum, centered on relationships, and built on the existing strengths of a school community.

School counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. “The ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs” outlines the components of a school counseling program that is integral to the school’s academic mission and is created to have a significant positive impact on student achievement, attendance and discipline.
The ASCA National Model guides school counselors in the development of school counseling programs that:
■ are based on data-informed decision making
■ are delivered to all students systematically
■ include a developmentally appropriate curriculum focused on the mindsets and behaviors all students need for postsecondary readiness and success
■ close achievement and opportunity gaps
■ result in improved student achievement, attendance and discipline
Mrs. Vasquez, School Counselor
About me
Hello! I'm Mrs. Jennifer Vasquez. I've just just moved back to Tucson living in Cleveland, Ohio since 2011. We returned because we are new grandparents and we are SO excited to be home. I am from an Air Force family that settled in Tucson before I started 8th grade. I attended Canyon del Oro HS, earned my Bachelors of Science in Communication from the University of Arizona, and raised 5 children on the east side of Tucson while working in Aviation and then Non-Profit administration. While in Ohio, I earned my Masters of Education in School Counseling and commenced my second (and long time dream) career of being a School counselor.
"My role as school counselor is to help students discover tools and strategies for getting 'over, under, around or through' any social, personal or emotional barriers that sometimes get in the way of learning and help them flourish academically and personally. I look forward to collaborating with families and the community to provide service learning, college and career education and personal/social/emotional growth for my students.
Yes, I'm a Nana with pictures! :-D
