Classes taught in the Blackbox Theater
In Beginning Theatre, we go over fundamentals of performance, stage layouts/directions, and story structure. The goal is to give students an all around background to prepare for upper level theatre classes. Beginning students will also have the opportunity to participate in our Beginner Badger Bonanza, a Beginning-student only showcase highlighting their growth throughout the year. Beginning students will be partnered with experienced upper classmen as they prepare their piece for the showcase!
Prerequisite for ALL theatre classes.
In Intermediate Theatre, students will explore the history and evolution of theatrical arts while developing an appreciation for a variety of theatrical styles, traditions, and performance practices. Throughout the four-quarter course, students will study the foundations of Classical Theatre through Ancient Greece, culminating in a collaborative performance of Greek tetralogy, allowing students to apply the conventions and production practices of Classical Theatre in a production setting, examine the distinctions between Realism vs. Naturalism, explore the movements of Modernism and Postmodernism within Contemporary Theatre, and conclude the year with the study of Epic Theatre.
Prerequisite for Musical Theatre, Film Acting, & Advanced Theatre
In Advanced Theatre Year 1, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the evolution of theatrical arts and practices through examination of different eras and styles of theatre. Throughout four quarters, students will learn about Classical era theatre through Ancient Greece, dive into the expansive art of contemporary theatre through an Avant Garde lens, examine the depths of Theatre of the Absurd, and finish off with exploring the Art of Directing.
In Advanced Theatre Year 2, students will explore the nuances between different theatrical styles. Throughout four quarters, students will learn about and advance their skills in the art of Short Form & Long Form Improv, delve into the style of Melodrama, and conclude the year with a semester of Shakespearean and Elizabethan Theatre study.
In Musical Theatre, we learn about vocal harmonies, musical staging, and characterization. Ms. Reed's encyclopedic knowledge of musical theatre means this class is a truly unique experience to Tucson High. Exploration of song and dance are a common point in this class as students will explore various musical genres all while getting an opportunity to perform everything they've learned. Students have 3 performance nights attached to the class with a Cabaret Night and 2 Showcase nights.

Theatre Club
While the theatre program is very involved, the club and it's officers help to keep things running smoothly. Being a part of Theatre Club is an afterschool commitment. It can entail running show auditions, setting up for/running fundraisers and workshops, as well as beautifying and upkeeping the theaters.
