In this introductory course students will learn the techniques of sewing, the tools of the art, and apply skills to create garments that reflect their artistic interpretation of design in functional art.
Students will also learn basic fashion illustration including sketching the fashion figure, creating illustrated collections of clothing, and how to draw textiles.
Field study to downtown L.A. to tour the FIDM Campus and the FIDM Galleries.
Opportunity to earn a Precision Exam Certificate.
In this intermediate course students will study multiple aspects of the fashion industry including the business of fashion, fashion forecasting, textiles and textile products, garment construction in manufacturing, product knowledge and apparel merchandising, visual merchandising, and developing and merchandising a line.
Possible field study trip to Disneyland for an Education Workshop.

Students will focus on specific aspects of the fashion industry in preparation for possible entry into fashion related careers.
Topics include advanced techniques in fashion design, fashion merchandising, and textile and apparel production. Students will advance their pattern-making skills and garment construction techniques to create a collection of clothing.
Students will fulfill a leadership role in management of the annual fashion show and update/maintain a professional portfolio. Possible internship or job-shadowing opportunities may be offered.
