January/February 2019
Every year, Tuscaloosa Magnet Middle School’s student council hosts a Valentine’s dance in the month of February. This year was no exception. The dance was held on Thursday, February 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 in the TMS gym.
Many popular songs were played by Ms. Brown, who took on the role of DJ, including some Queen, Toto, Elton John, and the ever important Cupid Shuffle, which practically everyone danced to. The gym was decorated for the event and decked out in Valentine-themed decorations, featuring hearts and the colors red and pink.
Dance battles ruled the floor, students could be seen getting down to the music. Awards were also given out for the best dressed boy and girl for each grade.
The annual tradition of Sweetheart Court also took place. There were candidates for all the grades. On Thursday morning, students voted digitally with a survey, and the winners were announced that night. The winners for sixth-grade prince and princess were Christian Bishop and Aniyah Richardson. Taylor Barnes and Reggie Robinson were the seventh-grade prince and princess for the night. Eighth graders Alyssa Mack and Kendall Williams were crowned king and queen. Eighth grade Posey McWaters added the last comment as the dance was coming to a close, saying that is was “truly iconic.” closing out a wonderfully planned event.
