Horseback riding has been around since 800 BC. Even though it has been around for so long, the general public doesn't know much about it. That is why I decided to interview MC Pope from 7th grade here at the Magnet school because of her horseback riding experience. I was reassured that the subject was the most qualified interviewee. When I asked her how long she had been horseback riding, she replied with "I was four but did it with my mom when I was three. Then I sat on a horse twice when I was two because no one could watch and then I started at six. "
I wanted to know what some of the most important qualities are for someone who horseback rides. MC said, "You can't be afraid of the horse and if you are scared, the horse is going to be nervous." This made me realize that you need that symbiotic relationship, almost consanguinity with your horse at all times. Be in control of your horse kind of let the horse take lead sometimes, but also make sure that you're still in control." You must be at all times the predominant force in that symbiotic relationship.
The part of the interview that I overlooked originally while speaking with MC, was the instance I asked her about what kind of injuries she has gotten. The exact thing she told me was "The biggest ones I remember were the giant blackish purple bruise on my back and the sprain on my wrist.", That sentence in itself doesn't have a large amount of meaning but in combination with the fact that she still enjoys the sport even after injuries like such stated.
'I understand that most people haven't ridden a horse at fast speeds, which is why I asked what it was like to horseback ride in general. " Horseback riding is really fun, but it's also very dangerous. I'm not able to do contact sports because of my skin condition. And we did horseback because it wasn't a contact sport. It is dangerous and but otherwise, than that, it can be really fun, most of the time." Is what she replied with. I noticed the word danger seemed to make an appearance very often. I hear this word very often talked about in all sports, which is maybe why we have an impulse to do them, because of that risk, because of that uncertainty.
Many people play sports for a given time in their life, but I wanted to see if MC thought she would still horseback ride ten years in the future.
When she said this you could see that the words she spoke of were true words, she truly loves the sport.
That is what is so great about sports, it has allowed people themselves to have an interest, it becomes a part of who they are. This is why sports are one of the most tremendous things that people have access to. I am glad to have interviewed MC and hope that people are a little more informed than they were before this article.
