This past month, students have been working on a schoolwide Cultural Contributions project.
Every group or individual chose a country and were to decide a topic to research. These topics included dance, food, wildlife, music, and many more. After months of work, we as students showcased our knowledge and what we had learned from our chosen topic during International Night for the elementary.
Different countries were presented that night. Emily Hunter and Emma Shaw showcased the Blue Morpho butterfly which is known to be one of the most beautiful butterflies in South America. They are associated with healing and power and their wingspan can grow up to 6 inches. The Bahamas table, run by Erik Struthwolf was all about the wildlife and what you could find on the island, shells, coral, fish, and sea glass. The Slovakia table, run by Daniel Waldrop, discussed the art of jazz in Slovakia. There are many famous artists like Peter Lipa who is known as the “father of jazz” in Slovakia.
The much anticipated presentation surroundings were very lively and colorful, showing off the diversity and culture of the TMSM community. Parents also had an option of running tables, countries represented that night included China, South Korea, Turkey, Canada, and much more. There was lots of information to be shared by the students booths. Many young children, babies, and parents flooded the gym and many clapping hands filled the air. There was much discussion, happiness, and joy filled the air as the night went on.
