There is more to what meets the eye.

Naruto, Attack on Titan, Boku No Hero Academia, do these names ring a bell? I’m convinced they do, as these are some of the more well-known anime series that you’ve likely heard of. To be honest, I went a really long time hearing references about many animes that I would never understand. My curiosity to understand what these references actually meant was what made me decide to get into anime. My first ever anime that I watched was Pokemon, and I completely blame my brother. Growing up with a brother opened me up to many different Shonen animes, which is a type of anime aimed for males, like Dragon Ball Z and Naruto.
Attack on Titan was my first good anime, and let me just say it was, very different. Half of the living human population was eaten in the first two episodes and it’s thoroughly depressing, but it has an amazing plot line. Humanity has been mostly killed off and the remaining population is trying to fight back against the Titans. After I had watched the first season, I wasn’t able to because Netflix hadn’t added the second season, so I decided to watch another anime called Death Note. Another anime that is absolutely amazing is called Blue Exorcist, just know that this anime is AMAZING. Anyway, as my love for anime slowly started to grow, I started looking for more, and I even started reading manga!
Some manga that I recommend is Dead-man Wonderland, as it had me completely shook and empty for weeks. Tokyo Ghoul, which I am currently reading, has left me in many existential crises. This one is a little on the depressing side, but a lighter one that I definitely recommend is Ouran High School Host Club, featuring a very relatable main character.
I’m still exploring new anime and partaking in many fandoms. Sometimes one episode may just be too emotional, and I’ll just have my whole day ruined or will have an existential crisis for the rest of the day. That’s what anime does, so if this happens to you, it’s okay. Anime is a deep abyss that you can’t come out of when you’re in too deep, but I’m so very happy that I became intertwined with it and was able to share this with you.
