Kamilah Campbell has set many goals for herself. She aspires to go to Florida State University and get a major in dance. She also has a 3.1 grade point average. When Kamilah took the SAT her first time, she made a 900. In order to improve, she got a tutor, took online classes, and even got herself an SAT prep book.
After taking the test again, Kamilah received an letter telling her that her SAT scores were denied. They claimed that they had valid proof to cancel her test scores. Campbell claimed that she did not cheat. She increased her total score from a 900 to a 1230. Kamilah says that she “Did not cheat. I studied, and I focused to achieve my dream.”
According to Zach Goldberg, spokesman for College Board, scores are flagged not just because of gains, but because they might have similar answers or something happening at the testing site.
Ben Crump who is a civil rights attorney is helping push Campbell and her mother through the process of evaluating her scores. They are trying to do it in time for her to be able to get into the Florida State dance program. Crump believes that her score was not being improved because Campbell’s score increased 330 points.
