School counselors believe:

* Effective school counseling is a collaborative process involving school counselors, students, families, teachers, administrators, other school staff and education stakeholders

* Every student should graduate from high school prepared for postsecondary opportunities such as college and or career

*School counseling programs promote and enhance student academic, career and social/emotional outcomes

* Every student should have access to a school counseling program

* Every student should have access to and opportunity for a high-quality education

*School counselors are leaders in the school, district, state and nation

* Every student can learn, and every student can succeed

The students of The Alberta School of Performing Arts are critical thinkers, respectful, creative and socially/emotionally responsible learners who use attitudes, skills and knowledge of lifelong learners and are fully prepared for life and career success. 

The mission of The Alberta School of Performing Arts Counseling Department is to enhance the quality of life for all students by providing them with equitable access to comprehensive and developmentally appropriate counseling services which promote success. Students will be taught to be critical thinkers, respectful, creative and socially/emotionally responsible. Through the leadership of the school counselor, students will focus on academic, career and social/emotional growth. The school counselor will advocate for students’ needs to be lifelong learners as well as college and career ready. By collaborating with stakeholders, the school counseling program will have the support and resources needed to prepare students for social, academic and career excellence.
