Role of the School Counselor at TMSE
At TMSE, I serve on several different committees:
Schools of Character, Leadership Team, and Multi-Tiered supports team (MTSS) I also teach counseling lessons once a month and conduct lunch bunches weekly. I meet with students individually as needed or referred to me. I attend monthly MTSS meetings with our teaching teams. I also serve as the 504 Coordinator for TMSE.
Tuscaloosa Magnet Elementary School Counseling Program Mission Statement
The mission of the Tuscaloosa Magnet School Elementary School Counseling Program is to provide all students with equal access to comprehensive and developmentally appropriate counseling services. With our culture of high expectations, students will focus on their academic, career, and social/emotional growth under the leadership of their school counselor. Our school core values of integrity, respect, perseverance, critical thinking, and responsibility will support growth in these areas. The school counselor will not work in isolation as collaboration between parents, teachers, students, and community members will be necessary to support and advocate for equity in achievement. Through all of these avenues, we will see our students become successful in discovering knowledge, creating a better world, and serving in a way that respects others.

The vision of the counseling program at Tuscaloosa Magnet School Elementary is that all students show integrity, respect, perseverance, and responsibility. Through these core values, they think critically, show others they care, and are internationally minded, which leads them to have success in life and their career.
School Services Available
Journey Program: The Tuscaloosa City School System has a strong partnership with Indian Rivers Behavioral Health. Through this relationship, we have a mental health therapist, Mrs. Brittney Joiner, that visits our school one day each week. For more information or to seek a referral to this program,

504 Coordinator: I serve as the 504 coordinator for Tuscaloosa Magnet Elementary. What is a 504 you may ask?
A 504 plan ensures that students with physical or mental disabilities have equal access to educational programs and activities in public schools and federally funded private schools. It is designed to remove barriers to learning by providing accommodations, supports, or services tailored to a student’s needs, without altering what they are expected to learn.
