Our Life Readiness programming helps students understand and manage their emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
We focus on the five CASEL core competencies:
Self-Management
Responsible Decision-Making
Relationship Skills
Social Awareness
Self-Awareness
We’ll be dedicating time and effort to teaching and reinforcing these competencies to help 6th-8th grade students learn and improve their life readiness skills.
The following areas are covered using our Second Step Middle School Program:
Mindsets & Goals: students will learn research-based strategies for setting and achieving goals and handling difficult situations, as well as how to grow their brains and acquire more knowledge.
Recognizing Bullying & Harassment: students learn to recognize bullying and harassment, how to stand up safely to bullying, and how to respond appropriately to harassment.
Thoughts, Emotions, & Decisions: students learn about the positive role emotions play in their lives, how to handle unhelpful thoughts and strong emotions, and how to apply strategies to manage their emotions and reduce stress.
Managing Relationships & Social Conflicts: students learn strategies for developing and maintaining healthy relationships, dealing with conflict, and considering multiple perspectives.
