Closure

I’ve returned to the places I’ve missed

from the past.

Broken memorials of what my life used to be;

Old streams I used to slip into,

The pine tree we once climbed,

The decrepit old house you tried to burn down,

the residential cliffside

where I told you I loved you.

Although I am gone now;

and you, even farther gone,

together,

in these places,

we’re still here.

Like we never left.

So if I can’t have you,

let me be materialistically attached.

clinging to what we used to have.

Please,

just let me have this;

Closure.

 Bird

I wish I was a bird

Flying there in the blue sky

Hearing that sweet song others will sing

Having my own life, Feeling the wind on my feathers as I glide ever so carefully

Hundreds of feet high, watching the earth under me

Not having to worry about the problems that lie ahead

A peaceful creature in this world

Everlasting peace

It's new.. -G

Clear Night Skies

Why is it that, He was never real,

when I close my eyes, he is just a thing,

I see nothing, a character of imagination,

but clear night skies? not a living being.

I feel alone, Why is it though,

dark and no one near, when I open my eyes,

but I hear a voice, I still yet yearn,

saying “nothing to fear”. for the clear night skies?

Why is it that,

when I close my eyes,

I see someone,

in the clear night skies?

He offers his hand,

he gives off a glowing light,

I fall into his arms,

and cry as much as I like.

Why is it that,

when I close my eyes,

I feel loved,

in the clear night skies?

I curl into his chest,

his warmth filling the air,

I hear no heartbeat,

there is nothing there.

Why is it that,

when I close my eyes,

that love is fake,

in the clear night skies?

There's No Metaphor, Just a Man on a Hike

Wind.

Blowing across my bare legs like a breeze through a mountain range.

And drought, made the terrain

too rough to venture.

A hiker sits upon a tree branch peacefully, feeling the wind between the holes in his pants.

From the wear and tear of the travels he'd taken to get here.

Yet as the hiker watches the sunset on the horizon,

his vision blurs and the moonlight hits the ground with its evil, burning glow.

Shades of white and faded blue send the man into a trance

One in which he finds himself paralyzed.

Wind,

Blowing through the space between his legs like a violent breeze through a mountain valley.

Crescendos of cries that never escaped his lips,

Tears that never dripped from his eyes, though

He wanted nothing more than to cry.

Cry for help because he was lost,

Because he took the wrong path.

A path that leads to a cliff with a sleek edge and a fatal landing.

But the hiker sits motionless atop his tree branch, his breath shallow.

A mannequin.

Nothing but a hollow shell.

And so the hiker leaps off of his branch,

Breaking his legs.

He is slowed to a crawl as he travels back home.

As he finally arrives, his perilous, agonizing journey behind him,

He does what he longed to do as he stared

blankly at the moon, the stars above,

He weeps.

Wind.

Blowing between his bones like the branches of a dying tree.

Life From An Abandoned Windowsill

The ledge of the window enters my view,

rotting and broken.

But it’s home.

I land quietly,

letting my feathers rest from my flight.

My nest still stands, littered with twigs

from years I barely remember.

From this windowsill, I watched my hatchlings

learn to fly.

I too,

long ago,

learned to fly.

Although I longed to return,

I knew once I arrived, I’d never want to leave.

I’ve forgotten how to leave.

I know,

one day.

I will have to learn to fly,

all over again.

Eulogy for: Boxer (The Ultimate Champion)

Read by: Snowball

Oh Boxer, my poor friend,

All alone when you met your end.

The most loyal supporter of the Animal Farm,

A shame and a mercy that you came to harm.

Untameables-the rats and rabbits reported to me.

Comrades, we decided, but much more free.

They told me that Boxer had two motifs:

(two sayings, or core beliefs)

The first, “‘I will work harder’”

And the second, “‘Napoleon is always right’” (19).

Foolish conformity, that intelligence discard-er.

All those muscles to work and fight,

But no brains to think or rebel.

After the Battle of Cowshed,

(now as insignificant as a pebble)

Boxer came to me and said,

That his iron shoes, he wanted removed.

To hurt and murder, he disapproved.

Even a human, he didn’t want to kill.

But I told him, we needed his skill,

To work and protect.

And I know or at least I suspect,

That this led to his death,

To his last breath.

Silly, silly, oh so silly…

He spent his whole life working,

Like a slave, till he, till he…

Was betrayed by your oh-so-great and fearless leader!

Napoleon, that greedy bottom feeder!

This is all his fault you know,

Without him, I wouldn’t have had to go.

We used to sing remember,

Back when we had that hopeful ember,

“Tyrant Man shall be o’erthrown,

And the fruitful fields of England

Shall be trod by beasts alone” (4)

Napoleon is worse than Jones,

The word tyrant is etched on his bones.

Boxer is dead because of him.

The strong, kind, devoted, hard worker, gone on a whim.

A bottomless pit of burning brimstone,

Much too kind for him to atone.

Where is he?

He has sins to pay for!

Boxer, he lied-

Moses told me.

Napoleon sold him to humans, yes,

That’s how he died,

For glue or bone meal, we guess.

Took him to his death.

BANG! I’m sure.

They shot him down,

Dead, you understand, dead?

Where is Napoleon?

I have to go, I have to find him,

Now’s my chance you see,

Farewell, you exploited lackeys!

You poorly oiled cogs,

Of Napoleon's machine, you see?

Oh he’s just wringing you dry,

Forcing all this work out of you,

Squeezing it out, like blood from a sponge.

Farewell, Comrades

My vengeance awaits…

Amazing art by students all around the Adirondack region!

You sit upon a stage.

A meer clown in their show,

You make them laugh,

You make them smile,

You’re supposed to be happy.

But your makeup is smudged with fresh tears.

Your outfit sewn with color is fading to a dull gray.

You’re bleeding through your polka dot sleeves.

You stand upon a platform.

Blinded by the stage lights above you.

You live to make them smile.

You live for the joyous applause of the crowd.

Backstage you are nothing but an actor.

A character stuck in the background.

Cut; Out of the script.

They made you out to be a clown.

So you believed it.

They told you to put your blood, sweat, and tears into your act.

And so you did.

Shazam 2 Movie Review

9/10

If you are looking for an exciting movie to watch with family or friends then this is the movie for you. This movie is a continuation of the first Shazam movie, containing a family made up of foster kids with the main character being Billy Batson and their loving parents. These children seem to find themselves getting superpowers and fighting crime. In continuation, the kids find that they now have new enemies being very powerful. The movie contains so many action parts that were incredible and pulled off perfectly by the cast. Though the jokes and actions within the movie are guaranteed to make you laugh. It is definitely worth watching.

Healing

Dear Poison,

you were what was slowly killing me. Ingested, festering; somewhere deep down. Our existence was ruinous. You ate a hole through my stomach, seeped out my eyes. Yet I still couldn’t see…

Your poison was slowly killing me.

Dear Antidote,

you were what I thought I needed to live. Your formula tampered; needles made of silk you used to “fix me.” When gravestones wrapped their arms around me, you were there to pull me away. Though I survived your noxious touch, I don’t think I can forgive…

You were what I needed to live.

Sincerely, Flourish

In this unveiling: a melanistic

barn owl's wing flaps non-existent

from delayed answers

in perfect sentences,

where fragments of home,

smeared with paint from other memories,

is also a way of coping

with a harsh noises,

or a menacing storm

bonding with full moons,

while a bird’s quiet cry,

yearning for that last breath,

is being carried in the hands of fate.

Jigsaw Puzzle

The pieces of who you lost under the couch,
Lay at your feet.
A thousand pieces of a whole you tried to complete,

You only kept a handful; You lost the rest.
My hands tremble, with desolation.
As I find all the discarded pieces, and put them
back together.
Corner pieces with no edge,
Puzzle pieces with too many blanks,
And too few tabs.

Forever an incomplete picture,
I lost pieces of myself in your arms.
With every passing thought I lose another piece,
I fear, one day.

I’ll run out of pieces.

To Whom It May Concern

To whom it may concern,

I’m sorry if I sound a little off

Please excuse the interruption, if my shallow,

Heaving breaths

Get too loud, it may

Disturb.

I slam my fist, sniffle silently, silently.

Someone’s in the stall beside me.

If they hear, the static, noise

Just gets louder.

A whisper.

“Are you okay?”

To whom it may concern,

“I’m fine.”

Sorry for the disturbance.

2022 Fall One-Acts

Do you ever think about pulling the strings on a hoodie?

Well, if you have you should come see "Hoodie" the play, performed by the middle school Red and Black Players. "Hoodie" is about a typical day in the life of a middle schooler. It has drama, and problems, and solutions for the student-characters.

"Hoodie" is followed by the high school production "Discovering Rogue" about a run-away living in a box on the beach. “It's about learning to accept yourself for who you are,” said Mrs. Cordes, the director of the middle school play. She is very excited and thinks that both plays are worth seeing. They have only one more week of normal rehearsals and three days of dress rehearsals for both middle and high school.

Robin, one of the students in the middle school play, says “Come support The Red and Black Players in this amazing play. The Red and Black Players put in a lot of time and work for only a few hours of this play. Come see us! We are welcoming anyone with open arms and love, appreciate and support us!” They have worked very hard on both plays so it would be worth it to go and support these kids when they perform.

Showtimes: 7pm, November 9th and 10th. $7 for an adult and $5 for kids. Ages 5 and under are free.

Is relish a sauce or a condiment?

Nowadays, no meal is complete without a sauce or condiment to go with it. Most of the time, people don’t think much about whether or not what they are putting on their food is a sauce or a condiment. For example, relish on a hotdog (which is technically a sandwich by the way). In this followup to “Is a Hotdog a Sandwich,” I will explore the debates and uncover the truth about relish.

Upon a simple Google search, I found a link to a Webster’s Dictionary page. According to one of Webster's New World Dictionary definitions, a relish is “a condiment of chopped sweet pickles.” Another definition states that a relish can be defined as “a cooked or pickled sauce, usually made with vegetables or fruits, generally used as a condiment.” This definition though, uses sauce and condiment interchangeably. In order to correctly define a relish, we first have to find the definition of a sauce and condiment.

Looking at the same source, sauce is defined as, “a flavorful seasoning or relish served as an accompaniment to food, especially a liquid dressing or topping for food.” However, upon searching an FDA article titled, “Product Categories and Products” in Attachment 26-15, “Major/minor main entree sauces” are associated with pasta dishes, such as marinara and alfredo sauce, and other main dishes that include pesto or pizza sauce. While the FDA doesn’t include relish in its requirements for a condiment, the Webster definition does.

When searching Webster’s Dictionary for the definition of a condiment, you get this, “a substance, such as a relish, vinegar, or spice, used to flavor or complement food.” It also says, “the definition of a condiment is a seasoning or other edible substance used to improve the taste of food.” The dictionary then provides examples of condiments such as mustard, ketchup and relish. Upon searching the same FDA article, there is a category titled “Major condiments” which includes ketchup, soy sauce, hotdog chili sauce and marinades, things that are used in large quantities as toppings (about one tablespoon).

This definition led me to execute my own experiment, to determine the definition for myself. I asked about 10 people approximately how much relish they put on their hotdog. And while most answers led me to a dead end (because a lot of people don’t actually like relish) the answers I did receive ranged from “one stripe” to “about one spoonful.” Based on this answer we are able to draw a conclusion to the age old question: is relish a condiment or a sauce?

Based on the evidence I have gathered, there is more concrete data to support that relish is a condiment, and not a sauce. Although relish may have fit the dictionary definition of a sauce in some circumstances, the FDA does not qualify relish in its list of major or minor sauces. Therefore, we can definitely say that relish, is indeed a condiment.

I recommend that you read “The Selection” series. This is a heartfelt book and has many twists and turns and will leave you wanting more. There are five books they all are very hopeful and mysterious. I myself am reading one and I wish there were more books.

A great show is Pretty Little Liars. This is a mystery and action show it is not anime it is real people. In these shows the four girls are faced with loss if friends, neighbors, and family. These girls are also faced with murder. This show is a windy road and you HAVE to pay attention to fully know what is going on.

Another great book is the book “Where The Crawdads Sing”. This is a heartfelt book and is slow in the beginning but in towards the middle it will suck you in and you won’t be able to get out. You will be wanting more and more by the time the book ends you will want more, unfortunately there is now more books related to this book but there is more by the author Delia Owens.

I also recommend that you watch the show outrageous pumpkins. This is a show that is insane and people carve pumpkins and are extremely careful about there cuts and will flip out if they mess up. This show is on Netflix. This show is also very interesting seeing how much detail these people put into these pumpkins.

My Biggest Fear

Whenever someone asks me what i'm scared of,

I'll play it basic and say the dark,

Sometimes i'll say heights,

Needles or even snakes,

Maybe i'll say spiders,

Or even falling from a high spot,

I'll say confined spaces,

Or even pain or loud noises,

But i hide my real fears,

I put them on a high shelf,

Because my biggest fear is that you will see me,

 the way I see myself.

Alliyah Lawrence

Dear best friend,

This is a confession:

An admission to state.

Your words have wronged me

more than once before.

What you spoke was an

abomination to how I

view you as a friend.

This is a confession:

An admission I’d like

to say.

Your avidly in my life

is not welcome.

When you first spoke of it,

it made me quail

and turn in my shoes.

This is a confession:

An admission you need

to hear.

How you act is strange,

like you’ve been stalking

me for years.

When we spent time together last,

I was chased and you

faltered in the road.

This is a confession:

A refusal.

Last time I saw you,

you pallored in bed.

As you sought forgiveness

I rejected coldly

like snow on a

dark winters night.

This is a confession.

An act for what’s right.

You shoved your way

into my life

and now I say

goodnight.

Not Mad

By Anonymous

Talking, not listening.

Critiquing, never criticized.

Insulting, yet never bothered.

I can’t explain this feeling but it’s all caving in.

The little bits of me are taken but I can never bring myself to take.

But I’m not mad, I don’t voice my thoughts so they don’t know.

Plus, they never listen.

Spiderman No Way Home

5/5

This was an emotionally riveting movie that celebrated the Spiderman fandom in a really creative way. After tackling high school, Peter Parker faces his next hurdle: college. Just trying to get into the school of their dreams Peter, Ned, and MJ aren’t thinking about the next “big bad”, they just want to get into MIT together. And yet the previous exposure of Peter’s identity seemed to make his life more difficult than we could have imagined. Desperate for life to go back to normal, Peter searches for a solution to un-reveal his identity. Turning to a more mystical way of “fixing” his life causes things to become much worse and creates new dangers that affect more than just Spiderman. And yet throughout the perils, Peter keeps his morals about him, even after great tragedy and thoughts of less hero-like actions Peter makes the right decisions. With comedic moments and emotional scenes, character development and famous quotes Spiderman No Way Home ties many of the problems people had with previous MCU Spiderman movies into a neat little bow. What really stuck with me in this new addition to the storyline is this wouldn’t have happened if we were all lizards…

You really will feel bad for Peter after this movie, maybe someone should get him a bouquet of Forget-me-nots.

I looked out at the destroyed Camp I was conscripted into, knowing my brothers in arms were most likely gone. I thought back to the day that it All Began. I was lying in my bed too tired to get up, even though I knew I had to. I had made it into the school of my dreams, the Academy of Monster Taming and Hunting. Only 4% of wannabe Monster Hunters made it in, and I was one of them!

It was seven o´clock. I had 3 hours to get dressed, take a shower, take public transport, where I would get on a train and I would be taken to the academy. Just as I got up to get ready, I remember thinking that there is a 54% casualty rate of those who are conscripted into a hunting guild and how it was common for graduates of an academy like this to be conscripted. I said “was my dream worth it”

Now 6 years later, running through the woods, I don't really know if I should have gone to that transport or if I should have stayed home.

Friday the 13th-

7/10

This might be a throwback for a lot of people. Clearly, this is an older movie, seeing as it was released in 2009, but it’s still a decent watch. First, we get a very interesting villain with a good backstory and reasoning for his actions. Jason, the main antagonist of this movie, witnessed the death of his mother at the hands of a camp counselor after his mother tried to kill the counselor. Confusing, isn’t it? Then many years later, after no sign of Jason, there’s an incident. Let’s just say a group of people were camping a little too close to Jason’s home. This is an emotional roller coaster of a movie, we get suspense, worry, and fear that closes with a surprise cliffhanger of an ending. All this made it a really enjoyable movie, but certain elements of it were too predictable, hence the 7/10. This movie is not suitable for younger viewers due to gore, language, and sexual themes. You can view this movie on Netflix, but be careful who you get attached to, as you can guess not everyone will make it to the end…

Sincerely,  ;)
