EDISON PREPARATORY SCHOOL

PHYSICAL EDUCATION SYLLABUS


GOAL: To develop a program with emphasis on the mental, emotional, and social aspects of living, as well as the physical development for a well-rounded and active lifestyle. To give you skills and activities that can be utilized now, as well as throughout your lifetime.

OBJECTIVES:

To meet present and future physical and recreational needs of students by participation in:

1. A wide variety of physical activities that will lead to the development of coordination, strength, skill and endurance.

2. A variety of physical activities having continuing lifetime value.

3. Experiences designed to develop knowledge, understanding, and attitudes; which would result in desirable practices necessary to maintain physical, social, emotional, and mental health.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

The student will be given instruction in the following areas:

Aerobics Basketball Softball General Health

Soccer. CPR Bowling Health Speakers

Volleyball Gymnastics Fitness Table Tennis

Hockey Running Flag Football

GRADE SCALE FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

Students will be graded on the following items:

1. ATTENDANCE: 9 or more=F; this is failing the class. (Refer to attendance policy)

2. CITIZENSHIP: Conduct, Attitude, Tardies, Participation, Cussing etc.

3. PARTICIPATION: Non-Suits, Unexcused Absences or Tardies; Suspensions

4. SKILLS TEST: Fitnessgram testing will be considered. – participation and effort.

5. DRESSING OUT: Figured into daily grade.

ALL GRADES ARE AVERAGED AND FIGURED INTO A FINAL GRADE FOR THE SEMESTER:

100=A 89-80=B 79-70=C 69-60=D 59-50=F

ITEMS NEEDED:

Athletic shoes, WITH LACES THAT TIE, shorts (uniform colors only) that extend past the fingertips in length, and a T-Shirt (with dress code acceptable art and colors only).

Dress Code Colors: White, Green, Gray or Black ONLY! Unless the t-shirt/shorts are pre-approved Edison club/team clothing (that may be in various colors).

MUST'S AND MUST NOT’S:

ABSOLUTELY NO POP, FOOD, OR GUM IS ALLOWED IN THE GYM. WATER BOTTLES ARE ACCEPTED WHEN WE HAVE ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE (there is a water fountain for indoor activities).

You will have 5 minutes to dress-out before class, and 5 minutes at the end of class to return to your uniform attire. You MUST stay in the locker room until the passing bell rings and you've been dismissed by the Coach.

MUST RETURN NON-SUIT POLICY FORM SIGNED WITH PHONE # & EMAIL ADDRESS.

MUST help pick up equipment/trash, to keep the gyms and locker rooms clean.

DO NOT SHARE LOCKERS! Be sure to record your locker number and combination with the Coach.

LOCK UP ALL PERSONAL BELONGINGS. DO NOT BRING VALUABLES TO GYM. DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING OUT IN THE LOCKER ROOM. IT MAY BE GONE WHEN YOU RETURN! YOU are responsible for ALL of your belongings.

MUST have good sportsmanship and etiquette at all times. Fighting, foul language, put downs, etc, WILL NOT be tolerated.

Students who are ill or injured MUST report to the nurse before class and bring a release, if you MUST sit out. If a doctor tells you not to participate, you must bring a doctor's note, to not lose points for the day. No note to sit out = F for the day.
