Hello everyone, my name is Sofía Diaz. I am the 5th grade tutor here at Terra Bella Elementary. I would like to tell you a little about myself. I've been working in after school a little over 1 year. Before that, I worked as a Yard Duty in this very school, which helped me get to know the students I now have the opportunity to help every day. It is a wonderful privilege to work with the students, connect with them, and be here for whatever they need. I look forward to get to know this year's 5th graders better. This year will be an interesting one for sure.
With that in mind...
I would like to invite you to our 5th grade after-school class page. Here, our 5th graders will have access to our weekly activities and physical education, which will be presented in a day by day agenda. This will not only allow students to become more organized before and after joining after school, it will also allow parents to see what's new in our virtual classroom. Furthermore, they will be able to keep in contact with me for any questions that may come up. As we move along throughout this new way of learning, join me and the following 5th grade class. I look forward to making this school year positive. Lastly, remember to wear your mask, keep your six feet distance, and wash your hands for 20 seconds. Hope to see you guys real soon!

Hola a todos, me llamo Sofía Diaz. Soy la tutora de 5to grado aqui en la escuela primaria de Terra Bella. Me gustaria presentarme a ustedes.

Turning Salt Into "Glue"
Tie Dye T-Shirt
A shallow bowl
Milk
Dish soap
Food coloring
and cotton swabs
1 cup half-and-half
2 tbsp. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
3 cup ice
1/3 cup kosher salt
Toppings of your choice
In a small resealable plastic bag, combine half-and-half, sugar, and vanilla. Push out excess air and seal.
Into a large resealable plastic bag, combine ice and salt. Place small bag inside the bigger bag and shake vigorously, 7 to 10 minutes, until ice cream has hardened.
Remove from bag and enjoy with your favorite ice cream toppings.
Start by using your scissors to trim the stems of your flowers. You don’t want to leave the stems too long because it will take longer for the colored water to reach the petals.
Next, place one cup for each color of food coloring you will be using on a tray. Then, fill each cup about halfway with water and add several drops of food coloring to each cup, only one color per cup. Now you’re ready to add your flowers.
It may take several hours or even days for the flowers to begin absorbing the colored water. You will know the experiment is working when you begin to see the petals of the flowers changing colors.
Here are the supplies you will need to do this experiment at home or in your classroom:
Water
Clear Cups
Food Coloring
White Carnations (or other white flower)
Scissors
Green, red, and brown paint (or food coloring)
Elmer's Glue
Barbasol shaving cream
White cardstock paper
Cardboard
Scissors
Marker
Paintbrush
Mosaics are beautiful pictures made from colorful tiles of different shapes and sizes. You can make an inspiring piece of art that you can share with your family and friends with this activity!
Pencil or marker
Different kinds of paper, such as construction paper, wrapping paper, old greeting cards, magazines, fabric, buttons, etc.
Scissors
Glue
You can find the complete activity here!
For this simple science experiment with salt you will need:
A glass filled with water
An ice cube
A piece of string
Salt
To conduct this simple science experiment, place the ice cube into the glass of water. The ice cube will float on top of the water. Next, take your length of string (it will work best if you use a wet piece of string) and lay it across the ice cube. Can you pick up the ice cube? No? What could we use as “glue” to attach the string to the ice cube?
Here’s how to make the magic happen: Place the wet string on top of the ice cube, sprinkle some salt over the ice cube and string and wait for one minute. After one minute, lift the string by holding it at each end.
