Back in 2023-2024, Halima’s freshman year of which she joined Intro to Biotech. One of the main labs she was required to do, in RenzLab at Foster High School, is keeping the yEvo Yeast alive for the whole school year. In this project, Halima had to keep track of the yeast evolution and reaction to different amounts of dosages, all while making sure to keep both WildType and Msh2d alive. In the beginning it was hard for her to understand the concept while having to deal with big sciency words thrown at her and her peers. But thankfully she was able to withstand it and found ways to keep up with this new routine! With that, Halima fortunately succeeded with her yearlong task and was able to move up into Advanced Biotech, to which she is currently enrolling for 2024-2025!
Since it is her first time having a lab to herself as an advanced student, the first lab that she successfully accomplished was making her first ever TAE and Molar solutions! Currently Halima has worked on making microbiology media and agar plates! She has successfully poured her first ever petrie agarose gel plates without any fail!! She was also able to swab her LB Broth onto the gel plate, in order to see if she had contaminated the media or not. So far these labs seem to be persistent in Halima’s lab work station.
When Halima is out of her lab space, she likes to attend after school clubs to get some service work! Halima also likes to keep her culture in her mind at all times to remind her where she came from and to take opportunities given to her, such as education and after school volunteer hours! Halima has recently helped on the Hoco Decorations for the hallway decoration contest held at Foster High School! With all of these opportunities given to Halima, she hopes to be able to attend any university that is willing to accept her potentiality. Preferably any college or University that is near her place and/or in her country, Malaysia.
