During her Freshman year, Ella completed many projects in intro to Biotech. Her most memorable project being the yEVO yeast project. In this project, she and her classmates added drugs to the yeast to see which colonies would survive or die throughout the 15 weeks. She also completed the Crime Scene Investigator Project and Secrets Of The Rainforest project, which she says was so fun but also one of the hardest assignments she has completed. All of this was done in Mr Renz's classroom.
Ella is currently doing an extension activity where her and her lab partner are going to perform a plant tissue culture. This could take 2-3 weeks and she is just beginning now. Her and her partner found a protocol online and are planning on following that. The last project that she has just finished was lab 3.E where she quantified bacteria E.coli. Her results showed that her colonies were growing in different sizes which she and her partner both dont know the reason why.
In Ella’s personal life she loves to ride horses. Ever since her grandparents took her to Ocean Shores and she rode a horse on the beach at 7 years old, she's been in love with the sport of horse riding. It's her biggest passion. She has been leasing a horse named Beau for the past year, when she first rode him he really intimidated her. He would buck and kick and bolt off with her. But throughout the last year she has made it her mission to make him a safe fun horse to ride. Now, after a year of training, he is her heart horse and there hasn't been anything more rewarding. For school sports she does track and runs hurdles. Her favorite event being the 100m hurdles. Last year she went to state but this year she hopes to qualify for more events!
