Attendance matters. Be on-time and be present. We start class when the bell rings and end class when I dismiss you.
If you arrive after the bell, you will be marked tardy.
If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you will be marked absent.
If you miss more than 15 minutes of class, for any reason (eg. Bathroom breaks, tardy, leaving early, etc.) you will be marked absent.
The grading system is as follows:
50% Learning Activities
Tests, labs, quizzes, projects, and formal presentations
15% Content/Skills
OSHA training modules, content heavy assignments
25% Notebook Organization
Lab Write-ups
10% Participation
Daily assignments, notes, informal presentations
I generally do not allow for test/quiz retakes or resubmitting of projects.
I accept late work with no penalties up until the late work deadline at the end of each semester. This deadline is typically 2-3 weeks before actual end of the semester. No late work will be accepted after the deadline. Any work that is due after the late work deadline will not be accepted if it is turned in late.
If you turn in late work and there is a zero (0) in Skyward and it is marked as missing, you will need to email me to let me know that you turned in late work. If the assignment has an asterisk (*) then I haven't graded that assignment yet, no need to email.
I only grade late work about once a week. If you turn your assignment in on time, it will be graded typically within about 48 hours. If you turn in your assignment late, it might be a week or more before it gets graded.
From Bell to Bell, there is no Cell. This is the school board policy. This includes smart watches, headphones, earbuds, personal tablets, etc. Phones will not be allowed to go with you if you leave the room during class. You can use your phone and electronics during passing time, before/after school and during lunch.
First offense you will be reminded to put the phone away. Second offense will be a teacher/student conference. Third offense will be an office referral including a home contact.
However, there will be times when the use of cell phones during class will be permitted. We will use a stop light system to indicate these times.
Red Light - Phones and ear buds should be out of sight and out of reach. We will put them into the white containers in the middle of the table groups at the start of the period and I will return the container at the end of the period.
Yellow Light - Ask first before you use your phone. Phones can be face down on the corner of the table.
Green Light - You can use your phone, but must stay on task. Tasks would typically be for using your camera to document lab work, doing research, etc.
No more than one student out at a time.
If you need to leave the room during class time, the expectation is that you will return in a timely manner. This generally means 5 minutes or less. IF you are gone for more than 15 minutes, you will be marked absent for the period as per the attendance policy.
Please choose an "appropriate" time to ask for a hall pass, I need to record who is using the pass, so take that into consideration.
You will not be allowed to take your electronics with you on hall passes.
No passes will be allowed the first or last 10 minutes of class.
