STORY:
Lend Me a Soprano is a full-length comedy play by Ken Ludwig, based on his hit Lend Me a Tenor, that follows the chaos at the Cleveland Grand Opera Company in 1934 as they prepare for a performance of Carmen. The plot centers on the Cleveland Hotel manager, Lucille Wiley, and her assistant, Jo, as they welcome the world-class soprano Elena Firenzi for her one-night-only starring role in Carmen. Alas, Elena arrives late, her impassioned husband Pasquale has a fit of jealousy, and it remains to be seen whether Mrs. Wiley’s mousy but determined assistant Jo can save the day. It's a screwball farce filled with mistaken identities, door-slamming, and physical comedy, with little actual singing in the show itself.
