In January of 2024 (despite 2.5 years of classes at Tufts), I still hadn't learned SolidWorks. So, I took it upon myself to learn how to build, using Youtube tutorials and PDF instructions.
I traced a diagram from a simple Google search to create guide curves then used Lofted Boss/Base to shape the implant between the Planes. I also used a motor to rotate the femoral component in the video to the left.
The housing, blades, and shaft are three different components. Each blade is made with two crescent shapes and a 3D sketch connecting them, which are then used as guidelines to use a lofted boss/base tool to connect them and a circular pattern about the center line. The rear blades are synced with the front blade by mating the Top Planes of both. Followed a Youtube tutorial.
I built this R2D2 by following a PDF tutorial provided by an Engineering Design Class I am taking. While the class discussed how to build one of the arms and how to print the overall design, I decided to finish the construction. I also hollowed out the inside of the body to save filament.
