As epidemiology is a field where, historically, representation can be lacking, here I've highlighted the work of an epidemiologist, Dr. Mahasin Mujahid. Dr. Mujahid, the new head of UC Berkeley School of Public Health's Division of Epidemiology, is the first Black woman in this position. In her research, she investigates social epidemiology, with a focus on cardiovascular health, neighborhood, and racial/ethnic inequalities. In addition to her leadership at UC Berkeley, she also holds/held positions in the American Heart Association, the Advocacy Committee, and the Social Determinants Scientific Subcommittee.
