ABOUT US

Ira Caspari-Gnann (she/her)

Principal Investigator

Every moment there are millions of atoms, thoughts, and emotions around me combining in complex structures and innovative new ways. I love to be part of this growth, I want to stand up for inequities in these structures, and I constantly strive for improvement!

Jessica Karch (they/she)

Postdoctoral Scholar

I am interested in unpacking the complexities in the interactions between disciplinary and human practice, playing around with theories, and leveraging these insights toward collective action to foster a more just world.

Julia Eckhard (she/her)

Postdoctoral Scholar

Embracing lifelong learning, I see every interaction as a valuable opportunity for learning, where each person can contribute their unique resources. My goal is to ask insightful questions in educational settings and to explore in-the-moment learning in order to develop teaching practices and activities that make the most of the resources available to us. Specifically in the fields of general and organic chemistry, I am motivated to further investigate learning processes through modeling activities.

Nicolette Maggiore (she/her)

Graduate Student (PhD)

Humans are incredibly complex and wonderful social beings. We bring rich history with us to new experiences and it's important to me that these insights are leveraged and valued in the classroom. I'm passionate about researching these systems to learn more about how to cultivate equitable teaching and learning in general and organic chemistry.

Chinwendu Igboekulie (she/her)

Graduate Student (PhD)

Formal learning environments reflect the evident complexities of society due to the rising diversity among individuals. These profound intricacies, in general, pose challenges to the effectiveness of teaching and learning. My objective is to mediate these issues through research aimed at fostering inclusive and fair learning environments within chemistry.

Anais Nevárez (she/her)

Graduate Student (PhD)

With the expansion of scientific knowledge comes the expansion of opportunities for everyone to grow into it. With more diversity entering the wonderful world of Chemistry, my goal is to study and ensure equitable learning environments are being created and sustained with the hope that classrooms and labs continuously evolve and uplift all past, present, and future learners.

Kataleeya Powers (she/her)

Undergraduate Student

As a STEM major and Education minor, I have always been interested in the connection between education practices and STEM learning environments.  After being in two courses with learning assistants, I was curious to learn more about ways to create equitable learning environments within STEM.  As a result, I went from being a student enrolled in an LA-facilitated class, to being a learning assistant in organic chemistry, and finally to being a member of the Caspari Group discovering new possibilities for LA-facilitated courses.

Jessica Jin (she/her)

Undergraduate Student

Organic chemistry is notorious for being the "weed out" course, so before I continue on the healthcare journey to help patients, I would like to focus on the learning process. I hope that by investigating interactions and connecting patterns in the classroom, we can help develop new education models and improve learning outcomes.
