Some of Our Testimonies
When I joined the ski team, I moved from California so I didn't have a lot of friends coming into high school. The team allowed me to connect with a lot of people while having a lot of fun! Between staying at Camp Arrah Wanna, and just having fun getting better during training nights, it's an unforgettable experience. You also learn a lot about skiing and get so much better!
When I first joined the ski team as a freshman, I was terrified of the mountain and skiing itself. I even had to be carried down the hill on our first training day. I was unprepared for our first race and felt so scared, but what stood out the most was the incredible support from my teammates and coaches. They comforted me and cheered me on, helping me push through my fears and improve both on and off the slopes. Skiing has not only made me a better skier but also helped me grow as a person, with the friendships and experiences shaping me into who I am today. I am forever grateful for the ski team and the amazing people I've met through it.
I remember joining ski team my freshman year. I was scared because I didn’t know what to expect, I’m so glad I committed, the ski team is so awesome and it’s like a giant family there to support you take that jump and have fun.
I joined ski team as a freshman, I was a pretty intermediate skier when I first joined with no prior knowledge that ski racing was even a thing. Throughout my whole freshman season it helped me build up my skill level as a skier and my ability to successfully navigating a race course. The difference of my skill from freshman year to my junior year is astonishing as some of the skills I have today I would’ve never been able to think I could do if it wasn’t for the coaches and the team as a whole. Ski team also helped me build confidence socially, as I wasn’t too comfortable with talking to new people my freshman year. After I joined I was worried that I wasn’t going to fit in or make friends with anyone, but I quickly learned that I had assumed wrong as during the first week I made friends with almost everyone on the team. I really never thought I’d end up liking ski team but now it is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had and I am always excited for when the season starts up again.
I joined the ski team in my sophomore year, I wasn’t big on racing and I honestly wasn’t the best skier either but i didn’t have many friends so i thought a fresh start would be good for me. I ended up meeting some of the most amazing people, learning about an amazing sport and realizing what an incredible team it is. I regret not starting sooner, don’t regret not starting at all.
I joined ski team my freshman year and it really put me out of my comfort zone. The community is like no other and your able to create a bond with your team and with people from other schools because you spend so much time together. I wouldn’t have meet the people I have today or be the same person without having this team. It’s super fun and race days are some of the best of the year!
I joined the ski team in 8th grade as a provisional, I was a decent skier but I knew next to nothing about racing. I was forced so far out of my comfort zone both socially and physically and it was honestly really difficult to show up to practice, but a few weeks in, an amazing senior on the Tigard team took me under her wing and showed me the ropes. With her help I was able to meet some of the most amazing upperclassmen who I still think about after they've graduated. Racing gave me a passion I never knew I had and I channeled my new found confidence into my skiing. I am convinced that I wouldn't be half the person or leader I am if I hadn't joined this team and I know I wouldn't be skier I am today. I never knew I wanted to be on a ski team but now it is the one thing I will miss most from high school.
I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you for stepping out of your comfort zone and experiencing personal growth. Standing in that start gate for the first time is daunting, and skiing in rain and blowing snow is anything but comfortable. But you all persevered and pushed yourselves, and for that, you should be commended.
