Frequently Asked Questions about OBOB

• What is OBOB?

  • The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a trivia competition where teams of students read a list of books that have been chosen by the OBOB committee and then battle to answer questions about what they read.

• Who can participate? 

  • OBOB is open to 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders

• How many people can be on a team? 

  • Teams are made of four students.

• How many books do I need to read?

  • The list of 16 books is usually divided between team members, so you can plan on reading at least 4 books. Make sure you talk with your team so that all the books are covered--you don't want to all read the same ones! Once you finish your 4, you can start on any of the others.

• Where can I get the OBOB books?

  • Our school library has all the OBOB books. Plus, you can also find the OBOB books at the public libraries (both print & ebooks), and on the Sora app on your iPad.

• When will battles be held?

  • Battles are expected to be held when we return from winter break in January 2027, usually beginning the 3rd week.
    All battles will take place in the library.

Where can I find these books? 

• There will be copies available for check out in your school library and in public libraries across Oregon.

• Titles can be found as ebooks and/or audiobooks on Sora. 

• Titles are also available in ebook and/or audiobook through Washington County libraries (WCCLS). 

• Sometimes titles are available as ebooks or audiobooks on Epic!
